Do we need to worry about Rhoads leaving anytime soon?

You are all some kind of ignorant if you think there is NO WAY CPR leaves. Do I think he leaves? No. But there is always the possibility. This new TV deal should hopefully help with supplying the income to keep him at ISU longer, MAYBE.

I don't see him leaving for Arkansas, but I could see him leaving for Texas in a couple of years. He is very much on their radar for when Mack is done...

He is an adult that needs to do what he thinks is best for himself and his family and I respect that...but it would sting even more to lose him to a conference member! Ouch!

I don't think anyone has said "there is NO WAY CPR leaves" in this thread. Most have said it's a possibility, but hope ISU would make it worth his while to stay.

Well when your last coach leaves you high and dry it leaves that bad taste in your mouth, hence the fear from some.

Which is fine but I don't understand why we have to manufacture words that CPR didn't actually state.

Why is it that after every major victory (or almost every win for that matter) we worry about CPR taking a coaching job elsewhere? He is one of the best things to ever happen to ISU football, but we won't get to fully enjoy his time here if we keep worrying about him leaving. It's the cycle of life; people die and coaches leave/retire/get fired/whatever. JP knows how important he is to our program, i'm sure he'll do what is necessary to benefit the program.

CFH took us to the NCAA tournament and is looking to do so again...will we become giant worry-warts about him leaving for greener pastures too?

I mean I know he signed a 10 year deal, but the buyout is pretty small. Rhoads has stated he will not be here forever. If you listened to KXNO this morning and listen to Ken Miller at all, the local hosts constantly bring up the conversation Joe Quinn had in KC about the confident reporter from Arkansas saying not to hold on too close to Rhoads because he will be their next head coach. Arkansas not winning on Saturday does not help John L Smith at all. I think Rhoads wants to be here until he thinks he is not welcome anymore and until he has reached his potential here. I mean look at Chizik, the guy is already on the hot seat with an 0-2 start. Does Rhoads want to be at a place where there is no "down" year and has constant pressure to win and win big? I hope we can afford another large increase in pay if this turns out to be a 8-9 win season. Can we afford to pay him 3-3.5 million a year with the new tv deal? That is what he will be offered by another school if he continues to win here.

As I posted in another thread (and sorry if you have small children around)... but this is one of those "guys" saying "not to hold to Rhoads to close". I apologize for posting this again, but seriously people... The only insight these guy are qualified to give is what suntan lotion is best to use on your scalp and what is the best frozen burrito you can buy at Wal-Mart

For some reason, I am not at all worried. I honestly feel that ISU has CPR as long as they want him (which is exactly the context his comments were in). With the new TV contract, I wouldn't at all worry about not being able to offer him more money...ISU will be making nearly 3x what they were when CPR first showed up in 2009.

He has gotten everything he wants here, plus he is HOME...and I think that means a lot to CPR.

Never thought I'd see Travis' bald head again after he left KMTV. Also can't believe someone else out there still wants him to be a sports analyst.

Was I the only one who watched the Tulsa highlights tape?
Rhodes said something along the lines of "I came here to build a championship program"
I dont see a championship program yet. Do you?
Calm down.

Why would you waste your time worrying about something like this? I worry when we have crappy coaches, not good ones.

I think CPR stays for these reasons:

1. He wants to build a championship program here. He's doing just that and probably wants to see it come to fruition.
2. AD and president support.
3. TV money. This ties into #1. ISU isn't going to be at a financial disadvantage compared to the rest of the league any longer. We'll have the cash and we'll spend it on improvements and …
4. Coaches salaries. ISU is going to pay to keep CPR. Period.
5. He's got roots here. Friend, family and probably most importantly, his father, which is pretty freaking cool.

What exactly were his words on Murph and Andy that day? Something to the affect of he and his wife were at the Big 12 meetings and they dont see him retiring as the coach at ISU? If he did, he would be happy, but he just not see it happening? I cant remember the full quote.

He said something along the lines of most coaches don't stay at programs that long anymore, and it was said in the context of him not thinking ISU would keep him around long enough for him to retire here.

I can guarantee one thing: We don't have to worry about Rhoads going anywhere between now and Saturday. It's the middle of the ******* season!! This ******** is for the offseason, when there is nothing else to talk about.

Sure, Rhoads could leave and go somewhere else and take the helm at a program that is already well and thriving. But he seems like the type of guy who wants to build his own championship program.

And what better place to do that than literally down the road from where you were born and all your family lives?

If he wants to leave for more money, the offers may come, and we may or may not be able to match. He hasn't yet, which is a good sign. If he wants a program with more built-in advantages, the offers will come, and we can't do a whole lot about those except try to keep improving.

If he wants to build a program and make it his own, not just take over where someone else has already succeeded over the last 20, 50, 100 years, Iowa State is a good place to be. If he wants to have a job where he'll have a fanbase that, with a little success, will give him all the patience in the world, and not fire him after one bad season, ISU is a good place to be (look at KF's job security). At some point with what he's making now, he's living pretty damn comfortably wherever he goes.

Ultimately though, its going to be a decision he and his family make, so its pretty pointless to keep worrying about it without a credible rumor that someone has come calling.

I dont think Rhoads will leave anytime soon. I think he has things he wants to accomplish here before he goes anywhere. I would also hope that when teams with big paychecks come calling, that we make it worth his time to stay with us.

and yet you felt comfortable enough to speculate as to what he meant by it. This is where you lose credibility, and cross over into fear mongering. You don't even know yourself what he said, but have no problem using your vague recollection of it as a basis for a thread about him leaving.

Do your homework, son.
