Do we need to worry about Rhoads leaving anytime soon?

I can guarantee one thing: We don't have to worry about Rhoads going anywhere between now and Saturday. It's the middle of the ******* season!! This ******** is for the offseason, when there is nothing else to talk about.
I know, but this local media cant congratulate the Clones on a victory, they need shove it down our throat that we need to worry about our coach leaving for Arkansas based on hear say. Its like they think we should root for a loss to keep our coach from going to another school.

let me ask you this. if he builds a good football program out of ISU (8-10 Wins before bowl) garnering the love of all cyclone fans. Why would he leave his family and fans to take a chance in a new place with 10 times the expectations? if it's about money, ISU will pay him. The only thing that would make CPR leave in my opinion is if the fanbase soured on him or the football program. If he was not a local guy, I would agree with him looking elsewhere, but people need to settle down and have faith in their local football coach.

If he wants to leave for more money, the offers may come, and we may or may not be able to match. He hasn't yet, which is a good sign. If he wants a program with more built-in advantages, the offers will come, and we can't do a whole lot about those except try to keep improving.

If he wants to build a program and make it his own, not just take over where someone else has already succeeded over the last 20, 50, 100 years, Iowa State is a good place to be. If he wants to have a job where he'll have a fanbase that, with a little success, will give him all the patience in the world, and not fire him after one bad season, ISU is a good place to be (look at KF's job security). At some point with what he's making now, he's living pretty damn comfortably wherever he goes.

Ultimately though, its going to be a decision he and his family make, so its pretty pointless to keep worrying about it without a credible rumor that someone has come calling.

Thats they key thing here...ISU can now match quite a bit more then they previously could. We are going to be bringing in an annual of $20 Million in revenue. 5 years ago, it was a little over $7 Million.

in any case, coaches who stiff ISU are getting their due. Sanderson is stuck at Pedo State and Chizik is 0-2 and probably sweating bullets about his job security.

The one good thing about having a program with a mediocre past is that any success will give the love and adoration of the fans. At someplace like Alabama, LSU, or Texas, it's expected. Not appreciated.

Well, that's your first problem: Giving one damn what hawk-homers on local media think or say.

Screw them than... I will spare everyone the pictures (again), but why do you feel the need to have a fat *** and a guy who goes by the moniker HuskerHawkeye validate the win?

ISU won, it doesn't matter one iota what those tools think. The only things these guys seem to have any knowledge of (from the promos that run during Rome and Dan Patrick) have to do with booze and the proper way to give handies to Rusty Wallace.

I see a school like Arkansas being a more likely landing spot than Texas, simply because its out of the Big 12.

If Rhoads leaves ISU for a bigger school, I don't think it would be one that brings him back to Ames every other year.

If I was in Rhoads shoes, why would I leave? I get to coach in my home state for millions of dollars, the fans absolutely love me, my demand is vet high despite only needing to win 6 or 7 games per year. I'm building an up and coming program.

I hardly see a job in the whole country that can match that. If you don't win at texas, you'll be fired and possibly jobless in 3 years. Iowa state gave you 10+ and would love to have you around until youre 70.

What exactly were his words on Murph and Andy that day? Something to the affect of he and his wife were at the Big 12 meetings and they dont see him retiring as the coach at ISU? If he did, he would be happy, but he just not see it happening? I cant remember the full quote.

Just stop. You are mincing his words beyond belief. He never said it in the context you are.

I thought what he denied the often stated "fact" that "ISU was his dream job". Hasn't he come out and said he never said that? I thought that is what got people a bit concerned.

Anyway, it is foolish to worry about this and even more foolish to think he couldn't leave someday. Pollard is on it and will do what is within his power to keep him happy. That is all was can hope for and in the meantime, enjoy the moment instead of worrying about something you can't change.

FWIW - Rhoads recently bought a lake home on Clear Lake. People from central Iowa that buy homes on Clear Lake do it for short weekend get-aways. If you don't plan to stick around for awhile, you're probably not investing in lakeshore property in Clear Lake, Iowa? Hopefully. ;)

There are a couple of jobs that I think he would seriously look at

Auburn once Chizik is fired (chances are slim since he knows this might not look great to Cyclone fans, if he leaves I imagine him not doing something that looks bad).

Texas
Ohio St (was a grad assistant for them)

Back up the truck... turn this place into a parking lot

Ohio State would be the kind of job that would concern. Top 10 in the country, out of the Big 12.

Earle Bruce 2.0

Assuming Meyer has a somewhat natural career stretch at tOSU, I would be ok w/Rhoads moving on in 6 years or so. A decade at a school is a lot of time, and my guess is another 6 years of Paul Rhoads would make ISU a fairly attractive job.

Do we need to worry? No. Should we accept it as a possibility? Yes.

Exactly. We will absolutely pay him for his achievements. I havent a doubt if he continued to have growing success, that JP would find money to make his staff and him very content.

Agree, with the new B12 contract there is almost no reason we shouldnt be able to pay him. Our AD income is goin to be very competive with most people. The dude is going to own this town if he pulls off many more big wins like this. We need to keep the assistants around as well as long as possible. Turnover will happen with the assistants, and by definition you want some turnover since if you are succcesful people will poach them for head coaching jobs.

It is absolutely crucial to keep him as long as humanely possible. I keep saying this but ISU plays differently now than I have ever seen before. No panic, physical, hard hitting, in shape, and the speed is getting better now and it will only get better. He is way to valuable to let someone outbid ISU million bucks. His value to the university is much more than that. He has the excitement and interest at all time highs, the stadium is full pretty much all the time. Just have to keep him.

Was I the only one who watched the Tulsa highlights tape?
Rhodes said something along the lines of "I came here to build a championship program"
I dont see a championship program yet. Do you?
Calm down.

Um yes? We have won back-to-back Super Bowls now.

But in all seriousness, you are correct. I believe he has also stated something about changing the culture at ISU. You can't do that in a few seasons. That is something you are in for the long run for.

Ding ding ding! CPR wanted the new revenue to be put towards upgrades to Jack Trice and a new football facility. Well... JTS has had multiple upgrades including a new 4 million dollar scoreboard, ISU has a new 20 million dollar football facility, and CPR also got a new 20 million dollar 10 year contract. The people in charge at ISU have shown CPR exactly what he wanted to see and that is the financial commitment to building a championship program. As long as that commitment remains in place at ISU CPR is going to be the head coach at Iowa State.

This entire thread is ridiculous. Why can't Cyclone fans just enjoy it when times are good instead of worrying about when the next bad thing is going to happen.

Plus, everyone knows that just before 6pm this Saturday Iowa will have lost to UNI and Ferentz will either be fired on the spot or torn to shreds by rabid Hawkeye fans. Paul Rhoads anticipating this will immediately call Gary Barta begging for the Iowa head coaching position and even offers to take a pay cut to coach the Hawkeyes. He will resign and will not even be around to coach ISU vs. Western Illinois for the night game.

Not to worry fellow cyclone fans, Jamie Pollard has anticipated this move and in the fine print of Paul Rhoads new 10 year contract he wrote in an emergency contingency clause and Rhoads was required to submit a 30 gallon garbage bag or his off season beard trimmings. From the beard trimmings, the brilliant scientists at Iowa State have developed a way to combine Paul Rhoads's facial hair, the back half of a Clydesdale, and an actual tornado into a half man, half horse, half weather phenomenon that will lead this program for the next century of football dominance.

I think as long as Rhoads still believes he can make ISU a championship program, he will stick around until he accomplishes it. However, if something happens causing him to waver on that belief, he may consider leaving. If fan interest, funds for improvements and coaches start to level off and we aren't moving forward, we may worry then. But at this moment we are far from all that so I'm not worried.
