I don't but honestly, sad thing and crazy thing, if it happens, I am not going to be nearly as upset as I would have been a couple years ago.

Golesch to me would be the obvious choice after thinking about it - from his time spent here and it wouldn't be 100% change in culture / philosophy but also, offensively, it'd be a badly needed face lift
Please I would be on the Golesh train so quick

I'm the biggest Cyclone homer there is and if I were a recruit that played an offensive position, I wouldn't go to Iowa State....I'd be going to some other school (like Kansas) who can actually run an offense
He has already waited too long to change. I of course, hope not, but I believe it to be so. Everything is going to snowball now. Recruits and transfers alike. It is just so obvious.

Prove me wrong Matt. Take your hands off the offense and tell your coordinator to let it rip.

I honestly don't think they do.....they just put up 41 against WMU, a very similar opponent to Ohio
Iowa has a better offensive line. That means at the very least they can run the ball a little. It also makes it so even bad Iowa teams can beat MAC teams. And even with bad skill position players their line will make sure they win 6 games.

I dont think anyone out there could do what campbell did to this program and for this program.

no I don’t want him gone but he’s gotta adjust and make changes to his overall philosophy, I feel. another year or two of it and then I could see wanting a change.

he’s iowa states greatest coach for crying out loud.

I don't think I want him gone. But after a little reflection I think the biggest issue is the way we lose. We seem to lose in the exact same, Groundhogs Day, see it coming a mile away, boring fashion every single week. And there's just absolutely no growth from it. It's an exhausting way to watch football (and likely play football) to know that once you go down 7 or more you feel completely out of it.

I also just think the last 2 years you have to adjust your philosophy on being aggressive. In years past, you maybe punt it away at the opponents' 40 because you know if you get the ball back guys like Breece, Brock, Hakeem, Allen, Charlie, etc. give you a great shot to go score again. This year, there's no guarantee we get back to their 40. We have to scratch and claw to get it onto their side of the field. Taking a chance to pick up a few inches is worth it, because there's no reason to believe we can just waltz back to that position on the field.

It's stubbornness that gets all kinds of college coaches. It's getting Dabo and Gundy right now. You just have to adapt, and so far Matt has shown no desire to adapt.

His record after this season will be under .500 and unless some major changes are made on offense, the team will finish 1-11 and something like 7-24 in his last 31 games.

This times 1,000,000

You can play the Hawkeye style of offense if you have a strong ground game AND solid special teams. We have neither right now so that's how we have so many losses in 18 months.

Honestly, our defense kind of let us down in that regard on Saturday. We had Ohio pinned twice in the first half on phenomenal punts but we let them march it right down the field.

The problem is that usually coaches only get one chance at that when things are on the downward slide.

Campbell used that chance to promote from within instead of bringing in someone new to run the offense.

Then again, if he's got a long rope from Pollard (like, until 2025 at least), they could always do a re-do of that decision.

I'm guessing CMC had JP's blessing on that hire...

You can't pin anything on the defense. First off, they are exhausted being on the field constantly. Second, I think you see some scheme and individual play type things you wouldn't normally see because they know how badly we need a turnover/defense touchdown.

You hold a team to 10 points you've done your job. You can't expect them to be perfect, especially with the amount of time they spend on the field.

My biggest concern with Campbell right now is he seems so stubborn and slow to adapt and I'm just not sure that mindset is going to do well in this era of college sports.

Defense and special teams had a lot to do with that.... Overall it was by no means a great offensive outing for Iowa. The game was 14-10 at half.

Defense certainly isn't at fault BUT they don't create like Iowas defense does and we had Ohio pinned inside the 5 three times in that game and every time they were able to string together at least a couple 1st downs and flip the field. Unfortunately they are going to need to be more than really good, they are going to have to take advantage of those situations and get the offense the ball back around midfield.

Those possessions were in the first half. Listen, I'm not pointing a finger at the defense but the opportunity was there to flip the field and we didn't take advantage of it. This is where Iowa squeezes you like a boa constrictor.

Didn't somebody post our recruiting rankings the last few years, and when you add in the transfer part, it made our ranking worse?

Shouldn't Matt Campbell, of all people, be able to sell transferring to the right program?

Beginning of the end? Definitely not an overreaction and is a legitimate question at this point. Question is do you want coach gone, not will he be gone.

I don't think Campbell should be fired yet, but I'm as disappointed as anyone. It IS time for Campbell to be very very introspective. I understand that nobody wanted to lose Scheelhause (sp?), but to put him in at OC without hiring a very senior "consultant" to be sitting beside him is just pathetic. If CMC is going to act as a GM then BE an actual GM and recognize all of the needs and plug those holes. It is unconscionable to be a P4 coach in YEAR 8 and be in this situation.

Heacock deserves so much more than this. God bless that man!
