Does the legacy of the "mayor" change after this?

Not very many good players. He had a potential incoming class that was pretty good that had been recruited by Morgan. Those recruits more or less said that Morgan becomes coach or we are not coming. Morgan became HC, And Stinson and Blalock came to ISU. Otherwise they were going to go somewhere else. We had Jake Sullivan and Homan and that was about it.

If he wouldn't have been fired those players would have came to Ames. There was a reason Morgan was on the staff.

I'm annoyed that he is turning his back on all the fans that fully embraced him for our basketball leadership role even when he had no coaching experience. I had envisioned him to become a Coach K or an Izzo or even (this is tough) a Bill Self. I'm very disappointed.

I'm sure he's bummed that he didn't live up to your vision of him.

I'm really starting to think that Hoiberg did not like working for JP at all. He was trying like crazy to get the heck out of here it sounds. He can't say that the Bulls just gave him an offer he couldn't refuse when it appears Fred was actually out trying like crazy to get any job he could.

I think he interviewed for the Coe College women's basketball head coaching job that was open earlier this month in Cedar Rapids too. Geeeez.... the guy wanted out of Ames in the worst way folks.

I'm thinking he really hates the pizza at The OP and he's leaving Ames because they had the nerve to allow one to open in his town. The timing of when it opened and when the NBA rumors first started definitely match up.

Well, if he fails in the NBA he could take over Pollard's job in a couple years if need be

Most likely. He's probably talked himself into the false idea that the backlash from the community won't be all that bad either. For a supposed people pleaser, this isn't going to sit well.

Really looking forward to his press conference where he attempts to feed the public platitudes in an attempt to save face locally. Should be highly entertaining.

He should absolutely feel terrible about taking us to 4 straight NCAA tournaments and four consecutive winning records in the Big 12. How about two conference tournament championships? What about being ranked in the Top 25 for 35 straight weeks? How about an average of 23.0 wins per season? All the time being paid in the lower third of coaches in his own freaking conference. Fred gave us the home town discount for three years and JP refused to do anything other than say....well that's the best we can ever do. If 2.6 million is the best ISU can ever do then we will always be paying our coach the 5th-7th highest salary in the Big 12. Sounds like a great recipe for success.

I don't blame him then. The OP sucks in every way.

How will we ever know? Sounds reasonable to me though. He would never publicly say it was about money. He was discounted but he probably wants what he is owed. A person can feel cheated.

I guess I still don't see the Mayor pulling a Chiz. I won't believe it until I see it. Also, if it wasn't for CF I could have gone the entire summer in ignorant bliss. Thanks for nothing Chris!

Place me in the crowd that says, "Thanks, Fred", you did so much for us. But F u for chasing the money and leaving. I for one will hope he flames out miserably a la Tim Floyd. Will never cheer for the Bulls and Fred.

Wasn't he top 15 or so in the country as far as salary? For all of one Sweet 16 and no conference championships, I'd say he was compensated fairly. Yeah, maybe there was a little bit of a home town discount, but not a huge one.

No ISU paid him well for being a first time coach.

I know...I got it. Since everyone else is speculating. Maybe he doesn't like getting told what to do every 5 minutes on the Applebee Coach's show. That wouldn't be irritating to listen to.
If Fred couldn't handle that how is he going to handle the Chicago media and fans where they don't worship the ground he walks on?
