I understand this. It's the need to leave the stadium for the sake of beer in a short amount of time which makes them come off as alcoholics. In literally any other situation, the sentence, "I have ten minutes, I could probably finish a beer or two." sounds so asinine, you would have to ask the person to repeat themselves.

Folks keep talking about how "this is what makes JTS so great!". No, what made this halftime tradition great was the fact that the football team was garbage and you could afford to miss a few minutes for some, or the second half for others. I hope the football team culture continues down the path they've set forth this year. I also hope the fans realize and recognize this culture change and embrace it and actually want to be a part of it.

There it is again. Need. You're the only one saying this. Nobody is saying they would have a panic attack or anything if they couldn't have a beer at half. Halftime is boring. The marching band is not fun (even from someone who was in marching band in HS), but drinking a beer with your family/friends is. We have about 6 different ticket sections among our tailgating group, so it's an opportunity to drink a beer with them and discuss the first half, even for a few minutes.

The bolded is just an asinine comment. If I would rather drink a beer with friends and family than watch the marching band, I can't be enjoy the football team's success? Someone should have told me earlier. I've been enjoying it every bit as much as you high-and-mightys.

That's not what I'm saying. JTS was rocking on TV, absolutely rocking. I keep hearing about how electric the atmosphere was, and that's awesome. What I watched on TV, was a near empty endzone and quite a few empty seats on the pressbox side as ISU kicked off the second half and TCU ran back the kick. I'm sure the players paid no mind to it as they took the field, but from someone watching, it really confused me.

I was initially pissed about the empty seats but it did seem like a lot more people with kids getting back from concession lines and the can vs people leaving for beer. Then again, one kid nearby looked pretty tipsy and kept getting emotional talking about how much he loved tater tots, so who knows.

If I can't be mad about crap football, I have to get mad about something!

I will just never understand leaving at halftime knowing you'll probably miss some of the third quarter in a game like that. Then again I probably about pissed myself to make sure I didn't miss Todd Bandhauer hitting a 3 yard slant on 3rd and 19 down by 60 in the 4th quarter to K State.

I found that I had overdressed and sent some back to the car at half.

I don't need to, but I sure as **** enjoy it and to me that's a part of the game day experience. Deal with it. The amusing part is you're ******** about empty seats after half for a game you weren't even at.

People who attend games regularly with season tickets game after game, year after year probably don't mind leaving the stadium for a time. As for me and my 3.5 hour drive to Ames and only being able to make it to one and rarely two games a year, I may head down to the concessions once before halftime (to get my stuff and mingle with surrounding fans during half) and maybe again later in the game; but I absolutely do not feel compelled to leave the stadium and miss a sizeable chunk of the game just to go grab a beer from my car. There may not be that much action in the 3rd quarter, but if I'm spending money to be there, i'm gonna be THERE.

Why would I be? I've got zero emotional attachment to ISU as a school or as a team. I love watching them play and I try to watch them whenever they're on. I sure as hell would rather watch them over Iowa. However, the hypocrisy of some fans on this board for getting riled up about Kinnick not selling out against PSU and Iowa wasn't even ranked in that game, but getting all sorts of offended when people question why folks can't even make it back from halftime drinking for two top 25 teams playing and a chance for ISU to be in first place.

Listen, I know I'm not going to change anyone's minds, opinions, or feelings on what they do at halftime. I just hope you can realize how ridiculous it looks when half of a stadium is empty at kickoff because folks gotta keep tailgating. I'm not just talking about the TCU game either.

You are making assumptions that this is the primary reason there were empty seats. My wife missed the second half kick off because she was cold as the sun had gone behind the video board so she was trying to warm up in the sun during the half. Some are getting a drink but we had someone who went to get more clothes for the second half and another pair who were stuck in the concessions/restroom lines. So of our 7 seats, 4 were empty at kickoff and none of them were because they tried to tailgate at halftime.

This thread is absolutely asinine. Campbell talks about how great our fan base is and how our fan support is there. We've proven year after year we still show up with terrible seasons. At 6-2 are we really pointing out some fans, who by choice of paying for their own ticket, want to go out and take in the ENTIRE tailgate/game experience at half? That is nitpicking. I don't see Campbell coming out and saying, man I really wish those fans wouldn't enjoy themselves and would actually show up after halftime ON TIME. No, he said fan support has been amazing. I'm glad there's a few perfect fans in here to cast judgement on others.

I, myself, like to also go out and enjoy a beer and tailgate with a crew that is in a prime spot I don't always get to see. We talk about the first half and what we think the outcome will be. We come back in at a reasonable time, where we did miss the kickoff, but that was it. God bless. Go Cyclones.

Winning isn't big enough? Winning isn't more important than drinking oneself silly in the stadium, with kids all around? Winning isn't big enough to sacrifice something for the sake of our young iSu men doing wondrous things on the field?

To hell with those of you who just gotta have a drink at halftime, who think that is more important than doing your fan's job by sitting your fat fannies in the stadium being proud and loud. (I have a drink or two before the game, a drink or two after the game; during the game, it's all Cyclones.)

I apologize to those of you who are alcoholics and are in the parking lots from need, not choice.

No, sir, to hell with YOU! How people choose to enjoy their gameday experience is completely up to them. We went years having few wins in that stadium regardless of whether butts were in seats or not. And while you clearly kept an ***hole in your seat (likely at home) it doesn't mean that everybody else must be like you. In fact, I'm hoping that there are very few Cyclone fans like you.

Having a beer or two in the stadium would not mean that people are drunk, nor an alcoholic. Adulting means that we can enjoy ourselves as we see fit, which probably means being able to stop ourselves before throwing up on the "kids". I'm sorry you're unable to show similar restraint.

Please go back to being a Halkeye fan.

Watched the replay of the kickoff return 5 times trying to figure out how 3000 more people sitting down could have stopped him. All I can see is maybe on the juke after he paused for a second? Somebody that understands the game better than me is gonna have to point it out.

He would have had to fight against a headwind from screaming of the crowd in the SEZ. That would have given our boys time to catch up to him and bring him down. Then Kenny Hill could have thrown another interception from the five yard line.

Sizeable chunk? We're talking about walking in as the second half starts, not missing the entire third quarter.
