You should kick the tires on Altman and see if he has the same interest he did 6 years. He would be the only current head coach that I would feel comfortable giving 3 million a year and still know we will be going to the NCAA tournament almost every year.

3 million isn’t going to cut it for Dana. He’s making that, or more with bonuses, now.

I think Coach Prohm is a guy most of us wanted to see succeed. He has done a good job recruiting and and sent multiple guys to the NBA and runs a clean program. Much like Greg McDermott something did not click here and I hope he finds a job that he can succeed at.

I am now in the crowd that I hope he finds a job to move onto so we don't have to fire him and pay a buyout. This season even with the COVID challenges I have a hard time finding positives that if we stay the course with Prohm things will get better. If you watch the women's BB games those players lay it all out there and you don't question the effort and right now I can't say the same about the mens team.
Thank you for this! This is exactly how I'm starting to feel!

I like Devries for short term and longer term thinking. If his son comes and Foster stays along with the PG coming in, there is hope.

Longer term, Devries has had to coach with guys leaving all the time, the dude has done nothing but win. When I've been able to watch, his players seem to have fun, play hard and gave a purpose. Very different compared to what we see in Ames. I believe his style would keep fans interested and get ISU back to the tourney by his second year at the latest. (Hope that's not a stretch)

Others mentioned it and I kind of wish I had made the poll public. Are the people saying Prohm is doing a good job just trolling? I really only put it there to cover every conceivable option not really expecting anyone to pick it.

Matta was pretty successful at OSU but I always figured there was lots of illegal stuff going on with recruiting. Not sure he and Jamie would be a good fit together.

Now what exactly are you basing this on? Just a hunch? If you're going to write something like this, I really hope you would have some kind of source instead of just a "gut feeling".

Anyway, I doubt that Matta is even a semi-realistic option, but if he is I think you have to move heaven and earth to try and get him.

Does anyone know Prohm's buyout amount? CW said on a podcast it's only 1.5-3 and from what I can tell it's more like 5mm.

Let him coach to the end of the year, but don't wait much longer after that. They should be identifying potential options now so they are ready to start the process right away.
In my opinion, based on things I've heard, we will have a different coach next year. I agree with you though and truly hope we don't wait long before that happens. That's why the rumors of Steve looking elsewhere at coaching opportunities excites me, because we wouldn't have to pay the full buy out.

I do hope we can have a McDermott-type end to this. Not only the money piece, but just the respectability of it. Steve seems like a good guy and you'd like for this to end as amicably as possible. I'd be amazed if he isn't wanting out of this just as bad as we want him out. It's just time for everyone to start anew.

Coach really should be looking. He's destroying his brand at ISU

It isn't working. Head back to mid-major, recruit some studs, roll the balls out, and collect wins.

He needs that lifeboat

What has happened to you jsb? You are the one trying to calm down the ones freaking out. I am wondering if I am still asleep and dreaming this stuff.

That was in response to someone saying prohm should be fired in the middle of the season. I said that is not done in coaching except in rare circumstances and it would look terrible to other coaches if we did. I also said that firing him now would not help us get a new coach.

He's not only destroying his brand, but he's destroying Iowa State's as well. He could leave this year and use this season's uniqueness as a crutch, or he could come back next year and ultimately screw himself out of landing a good mid-major gig. If he comes back and we have a similar season as this year or two years ago (95% chance that we would), his list of suitors would diminish.

For our own sake, if Steve is back next year, our attendance is going to be horrific and that's going to be very impactful on $$ obviously. We'll have the ability to have 100% capacity however 50% (maybe) is where it will be at. If you bring in someone like DeVries or TJ, you instantly jump start your program back up from a fan engagement perspective and your attendance sky rockets.

Not exactly sure.
I would hope that the process has started already. JP should already know TJ's interest after the wives exchanged 'updates on the kids'.
Pollard is known for having a list of names for potential coaches for every sport. He doesn't wait to get blindsided and then scramble up a person. If there was ever a time where we did get caught a little, it was with Prohm. Fred did us no favors by stretching things out as long as he did.

Yeah, and I totally agree with you. Just giving you a rough time.
