Well we should start something up. I might start another thread about this, I'm sure we could host the first round.

It looks like you, hiphop, KC, and (twojman and cytasticlone who liked the comment) might be interested. I'm sure we could get more like MJ as he's in Ankeny IIRC.

I'd be interested in this as well.. don't live in Ankeny.. but only live about 30 minutes away . my wife may even be interested to if it comes to fruition ;). And I got a good collection of board games..

I'm still stuck in the same situation as I was when I was a kid- no one to play them with. My wife actually likes board games, but she doesn't enjoy complexity and I do, so we don't play very much at all.

Same here. My favorite game is Carcassonne, but my wife says its too long/too many rules.

I tend to agree with your wife...I find that I lose interest if you have to study the rules before each turn, but many people enjoy those kinds of games. As for us, Papalew is enjoys strategy (chess, Duel, Stratego, even Chinese Checkers) and games where he can play the odds, and I love word games & trivia games. A perfect game for us is Outwageous...trivia for me, playing the odds for him.

Any time you have multiple couples, you'll need to make a mix of games to keep people involved, and people have to be willing to move outside their gaming comfort zone sometimes.

Our household has been through phases of Catan, Ticket to ride (Sails & Rails), Pandemic, World Fair and others previously mentioned. Current favorite is Scythe. First play is pretty complex to get the rules down, but you pick it up surprisingly quick.

I used to play Axis & Allies all the time when I was younger. All of the old Milton Bradley "Gamemaster" games were pretty good.

Oh man, I forgot about Conquest of the Empire and Shogun. Once I saw them I remembered we made up our own game combining A & A, Shogun and Conquest. We were in high school and thought it was cool at the time but probably dumb in retrospect. :)

Mille Bornes is also a really fun card game that's easy to pick up, and fun for all ages. Try to score points (miles) while hitting your opponents with things like flat tires, accidents, run out of gas.
I have a 1937 edition of Touring which was the original auto card game from 1906. Parker Brothers bought it in 1925 and later bought Mille Bornes, a French version and sold both from 1960 until 1975 when they discontinued Touring. I loved playing that game as a kid.

You should go nuts and combine Star Wars Rebellion, Imperial Assault, Armada, and X-Wing.

My BIL has several of the games already mentioned like King of Tokyo, Forbidden Island, Forbidden Desert, Pandemic, Exploding Kittens, Love Letter and Coup. I haven't seen Dead of Winter mentioned or Castle Panic.

Any Tak players on CF? I just received a hand-crafted Tak board last weekend from a good friend of mine and have been playing it quite a bit. Pretty simple game, straightforward strategy and pretty easy to pick up.
