Back to the K-State stadium itself (or Coach Paul Rhoads Memorial Stadium as it should now be called).

In this video, they don't even address seating. They are much more concerned with what is underneath (which seems really nice). No wonder the seating area doesn't look very good.

Not at all sure how you came to this conclusion? No wonder the seating area doesn't look very good.

I've been to lots of stadiums across the land from ND to USC and Oregon, and most in this conference including JTS. Most offer good views of the field. The video is about the training facility, not seats in front of it, which probably number only a couple thousand.

Gorm

With any luck we will be there by Tuesday.

Why Purdue?

They need an expansion about as bad as Kansas.

Why you pickin' on me, VeloClone???

I'm talking about attendance trends; plenty of 70,000 capacity stadiums have empty seats on Saturday. Check out all the stadiums in the 40,000 to 60,000 range from Arizona to Vanderbilt:

Sorry, don't mean to pick on you. I just thought there were lots of holes in your examples. I know the trend is generally down, but there are a lot that are up as well and I would think that a Snyder coached team could draw more then 53,000.

It should. But he's in Kansas.

I guess one of the points I'm trying to make is a packed venue looks more impressive than a big empty stadium. Here are some other examples of downsizing off the top of my head:

Soldier Field
Sun Devil Stadium
California Memorial Stadium
Memorial Stadium (Illinois)
TCF Bank Stadium (Metrodome was 64,000)

Specifically, he is in Manhattan, Kansas. The place defines the middle of nowhere. The closest town of any size would be Topeka. It would be about an hour away, and has a metro population a little over 200k, it is only about 1/3 the size of the Des Moines metro. Topeka also happens to be 30 minutes from Lawrence, so I would guess it is hardly home turf for the cats. Kansas City is about two hours away. KSU is probably the third tier school in the market behind KU and MU. Wichita is also around a 2 hour drive. It is a similar distance to KU, not sure how the fan split would be there. There is nothing at all to the north or west of campus.

Given the geography of the state and the fact that they are fighting an uphill battle for fans with KU, I would say they are doing very well for themselves. Having made the road trip out from KC for several games over the years, the place will never be an easy sell for the casual t-shirt fan.

Yeah, but they're also probably smart enough to not want to be paying off the taj mahal when they're back to Kansas level attendance after the old coot finally kicks off to the big endzone project in the sky.
