If Hines did that, the story was already written. Was this some hot breaking news (about something that happened months ago)? No reason why Hines couldn't wait an extra few days and get the full story.

If you believe for a second that Fred bolted to the Bulls because of Jamie, you're an idiot.
JP just greased the skids.

why go pro now? Probably because he knew another shot at the Bulls would be 4-5 years down the road and he wouldn't be quite as hot of a commodity then most likely.

Valid Point, I still don't think you leave a final 4 caliber team that you built and love, for a NBA team with a very risky injury prone superstar, unless something else is a problem... but then again I'm not Fred. IMO he could have any NBA job after this year, but maybe I'm still just a little bitter he left

curious, have you seen the contract Fred has with the Bulls? Love ISU or not... most anyone would jump at the opportunity to have that sort of compensation.

And lets not forget, Fred specifically mentioned that his heart surgery sped up his jump to the NBA…he doesn't know how long he has left to coach

So we're firing JP and CPR? Alright, I say we off Leath and Prohm while we're at it.

Total reset of Penn State proportions.

Don't care if we fire JP or Leath. Would be livid to see Prohm fired. As for Rhoads....

How any body can take the side of a local beat writer whose pay is determined by how many people read his article over Jamie, who has done more for ISU athletics than anyone, and Fred who has done more fore ISU bball is beyond me. Hines has no interest in the success of ISU. All he did was hurt the university by publishing this, especially after Fred told him not to

Was more of a dig at Penn State. I'm still wildly confused at what's going on. Whether or not Hines reported accurately, these statements didn't come from nowhere. FH and JP could be downplaying a lot or someone formerly with the program was extremely butthurt and made up crap to stir ****.

They used two ****** examples and blew them out of proportion to advance an agenda. Happens all of the time. But it doesn't mean that it is the right thing. I am sure that Fred and Jamie butted heads at times. But nothing I've read makes it seem like either one is without fault. The dumb stories about the hotel in Hawaii and the families going to San Antonio are just people ********.

I'll tell you one thing, if I was Prohm I wouldn't trust any of the media or journalists associated with Iowa State.

Yep, 5 mil a year to call timeouts and iso plays is healthy pay.

The stupidity on here is insane, I don't know why I even keep reading. It's like watching a train-wreck with some of you, I can't look away.

Did I miss a jimlad?

Weren't threads talking about Tommy Birch deleted almost immediately? But we have a mod starting a thread demanding a reporter get fired?

A reporter that has a great public partnership with CW?

A reporter that, before noon today, had a 100% approval rating from Cyclone fans?

My thoughts: Hines' sources were probably materialistic players/coaches/staff members who wanted Fred to stay. When you have multiple sources telling you information that you trust, you can rely on it. Hines likely will not be using these sources anymore. That being said, I believe some of what Hines says, and I believe some of what Pollard says.

Hines job is to be a reporter. Pollards job is to be an AD. Both are doing their jobs.

I don't disagree with you--risky move on Fred's part. But there are reasons...

-Jimmy Butler is legit
-they have some young pieces behind the aging stars
-the Chicago Bulls are a Top 5 franchise in terms of fortune and favor
-$25,000,000
-do it now, while he's still young/in good health/while he can
-get to coach against the best players and fellow coaches in the world... I respect that kind of professional drive and interest on Fred's part
-the NBA style of play and culture is trending Fred's way, too
-the East sucks (though Lebron is still there)
-good rapport with the Bulls' management--though, hey, if people though JP "was bad" from the now questionable Hines article, I could link you all to some stories about how they treated Thibs in Chicago for comparison...

And, regarding college coaching...

-Fred never seemed to like to play babysitter... he's one of the most level-headed human beings on the planet, but he looked about a 12/10 on the PO scale when having to answer media questions about BDJ's arrest last year
-I'm sure he's happy for no more late night calls from the Story County sheriffs or Ames PD
-didn't seem he really liked recruiting all that much, either, mostly delegating that to MA and TJ (from what I gathered)

Skipping that sort of "program-building" stuff, really being the CEO of the whole operation, and "downgrading" to the level of his comfort and true enjoyment of just being a middle-manager (the head coach of a basketball team) with his actual work responsibilities much closer to his hour-to-hour interest had to have an appeal.

I don't agree with it (but, hey, I'm biased), and the declining CHI roster and their awful record in dealing with coaches in the past would have scared me away, but I can see why he did it. I can also see those making the argument that he should have waited for another job, like, say, Minnesota, where the talent/expectations mixture is much more reasonable and the forward trajectory of the roster is much brighter, too, though.

Pollard is fighting to protect his job, Hines will be fine regardless, in this type of story you just can't release sources. But go ahead and support Pollard. Fred will support his boss regardless. Pollard does seem kind of stingy to me, Hilton does have green Pioneer logos at mid-court and that looks REAL NICE. Why would Fred interview at Minnesota when he has his dream job here at ISU? Maybe because he was undervalued and UNDERPAID??? You offer the mayor whatever he wants. I'm not saying Hines is great in this article but the man brought up some reason as to why the mayor left town, which the move surprised most all of us. You don't just leave Georges , Naz, and the rest of the team for NBA money, something had to have happened, and Hines wrote a story and what could have gone down. I don't question Hines integrity, what other story has he published that has been misleading?? Travis is a fine reporter and I will take his side on this issue.

Pollard isnt Fred's boss anymore. I'll go ahead and believe Fred and Jamie vs Hines. Hines over dramatized checking out of rooms at noon for a 6pm flight. Hines didn't fact check and had false information in his article. Hines has anonymous sources backing him. Pollard has Fred backing him.

Hines has quotes like:
“If Jamie would have handled things differently,â€￾ another source told the Ames Tribune, “I’m not so sure Fred would have left.â€￾

Anyone who reads that and puts credence into this article should reevaluate their perceived intelligence.

I guess I wonder how much Hines questioned the motives of his sources. Some of them may be competing with our program for recruits.

I was joking to myself earlier...

"Has anybody checked Hines' bank account for a Venmo transfer from a 'S. Belf' recently?"

Well, I was thinking more former ISU employees, but I suppose maybe Self is Deep Throat, as I joked in the other thread. Enough ego to be close to double digits.
