These are my biggest catches...not sure if i uploaded the pictures right, it was giving me problems. The king is from the Kenai, and the Halibut were caught off of Homer Spit.
Cool. I'm scheduled to visit Homer June 4th through the 6th. I've never fished for halibut before and want to go so bad.

I loved actually fishing for them, it's really pretty brainless. Fishing for reds, kings, and silvers is much harder. For Halibut, wait for your weight to hit the bottom, reel up about 2-3 feet, and in about a minute you're probably gonna get a bite.

As far as difficulty, I'd put fishing for Halibut about as easy as fishing for pinks in Valdez. Have you ever done that? Literally fish just covering the surface of the water to swim up an impossible waterfall to their hatchery:biglaugh:. It's pretty amusing.

No joke this is what the whole Valdez Harbor looked like when we were fishing pinks...

However...I got seasick as he11 when we were halibut fishing on the charter. It was terrible and the captain said the sea was extremely calm that day.

Good luck!

Might as well have - they were spawning. I actually drove down and went with my dad.... he hasn't been out fishing in a while, so I thought I'd show him how it was done.

You know, bluegill during spawning season are pretty gross. If you've ever squeezed one, you'd know why.

You'd be good for an opening for a fish squeezer. Ha Ha (if you remember the DMhelpwanted.com ads that they used to run).

This summer I'm moving the Creston and I've been checking out the local fishing in three and twelve mile lakes. Has anyone fished these lakes before? If so got any advice.

Also, I'm never been much for fresh water fish. Is there a good recipe or method anyone recommends?

Not to diminish your feat, SH, but bluegill are some of the dumbest fish around.

When I was a kid, I used to go down to the dock with fishing line around my finger, a hook, and a hunk of tinfoil. I could catch bluegill for hours with that setup, one after the other.

A little off the subject but the tinfoil with a rod is also an excellent way to catch bullfrogs

Fishing for pinks is nearly a guaranteed catch on every cast when they are running during the summer. There are so many of them in a good year that many fisherman are disappointed when they snag a pink, and throw them back hoping to catch either a silver or king.

I lived in Creston for 2 years when I went to SWCC. The fishing in 3 & 12 lakes was pretty good for crappie, bluegill, bass.

Also there was some decent size catfish pulled out of there on a few occasions.

I've always preferred M16 blanks. They kill a bullfrog with a "headshot" out to about 20 feet. (Ya gotta take the blank adapter out to let the gas shoot out of the barrel) and they don't even leave a mark.

Kind of like fishing with a real shortrange laser, it is...

My grandpa used to take me to Lost Lake up in NW Iowa this time of year, and we would catch the bullheads just going berzerk. As in, you catch a small bullhead, and before you could bring it in, a bigger bullhead would've grabbed it by the tail and would be trying to pull it back.

Just insane fishing. We quit with the rod and reels and just went to a cane pole after the first year, so you could get them out of the water, quicker....
