And for that rare circumstance where the bears don't do the same, a gun offers protection.
but not a typical gun you'd hunt with in Iowa...

Cool. I'm scheduled to visit Homer June 4th through the 6th. I've never fished for halibut before and want to go so bad. These are my biggest catches...not sure if i uploaded the pictures right, it was giving me problems. The king is from the Kenai, and the Halibut were caught off of Homer Spit.

Might as well have - they were spawning. I actually drove down and went with my dad.... he hasn't been out fishing in a while, so I thought I'd show him how it was done.
You know, bluegill during spawning season are pretty gross. If you've ever squeezed one, you'd know why.
Not to diminish your feat, SH, but bluegill are some of the dumbest fish around.
When I was a kid, I used to go down to the dock with fishing line around my finger, a hook, and a hunk of tinfoil. I could catch bluegill for hours with that setup, one after the other.
Fishing for pinks is nearly a guaranteed catch on every cast when they are running during the summer. There are so many of them in a good year that many fisherman are disappointed when they snag a pink, and throw them back hoping to catch either a silver or king.No joke this is what the whole Valdez Harbor looked like when we were fishing pinks...

Good luck!
This summer I'm moving the Creston and I've been checking out the local fishing in three and twelve mile lakes. Has anyone fished these lakes before? If so got any advice.
Also, I'm never been much for fresh water fish. Is there a good recipe or method anyone recommends?
A little off the subject but the tinfoil with a rod is also an excellent way to catch bullfrogs
I've always preferred M16 blanks. They kill a bullfrog with a "headshot" out to about 20 feet. (Ya gotta take the blank adapter out to let the gas shoot out of the barrel) and they don't even leave a mark.
Kind of like fishing with a real shortrange laser, it is...
I'd call it cheating if it didn't sound so fun!
