Yes......unless you live in SW Iowa. Then it is a step up.

SW Iowa and NW Missouri are areas that have been leaking population for some time now. I grew up south of Shenandoah. Quite a few small towns that are about ready to shrivel up and blow away. Sad to see...

The romanticizing of small town Iowa makes me lol. Nobody with options ends up there. Hell no one with real options ends up in Iowa period. That's why you go to college in the first place, to give yourself options to get the hell out.

There are people who have real options, but want to bring their kids back to smaller schools. Or have their kids be around their grandparents.

I went to college to better myself. I did know several people that all they talked about was getting out of Iowa. A lot of them left and some of them came back because they missed it.

I left Iowa for a job in Chicago the day after I graduated from ISU. Lived in several other states and am now glad to be back in God's country. Funny how age can give you "perspective."

Look, I suppose if I had no choice and had to live in Iowa there are worse places to end up than Des Moines, but small town Iowa is a dumping ground for people who have no other place to go. And don't give me "small town Iowa schools" ********. The schools in suburban Chicago or most other major metropolitan areas in the US are ten times richer than the schools in small town Iowa and offer ten times the opportunities. Are you telling me your kids learn more in flipping Boone or Marshaltown than they they would in Downers Grove? I mean I get it if you haven't travelled or experienced anything outside of Iowa and your only exposure to the outside world was Television you might think you've got it pretty good in one of those places but trust me, you don't.

I bet those kids in Downers Grove develop a hell of a work ethic too.

You are trolling, right? I mean, I bet most people on this board are from Iowa. So that's something that can really set people off here.

I wouldn't want to raise a family anywhere else, I love living in small town Iowa.
