Jameson and Ginger Ale
Bombay Tonic
Captain Sprite
Bloody Mary (If flavorful enough. Don't give me anything that's pretty much tomato juice and vodka.)
Jim Beam Honey and Sprite.
Miami Vice is my girlie drink of choice

Top mixers on RAGBRAI:

Captain & Coke (mostly late afternoon and evening)
Vodka Lemonade (late morning to early evening)
Screwdriver (for breakfast)
Gin & 7 (any time)
and the Holy Grail when you can find it (most bars are out of milk on the ride):
White Russian

Years ago when Mrs. Velo was pumping and dumping on the ride because she was breastfeeding one of our kids we tried to get her to provide us milk for our White Russians. No dice. This year our driver ran into a woman who instead of pumping and dumping was feeding her team from the tap. I was disappointed that another opportunity for the White Russians passed me by.

Primarily a beer guy, so my mixed-drink range is narrow. My 5:

1. Whiskey sour
2. Bloody Mary
3. Margarita on rocks, salted rim, lime wedge required
4. Fish Juice (recipe below)
5. Mulled wine (good at holiday time)

Fish juice
(exact % of each not specified, mix to taste)
Citrus vodka (also can use strawberry/cherry or combine them)
Squirt
Orange juice
Rockstar/energy drink

Underrated gem: Beer Buster (12 ounces beer, shot of vodka, dash of hot sauce). I like to call it “Poor Man’s Bloody Mary.”

I knew you were a little older than me but didn't know you were born in the early 1800's in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Shouldn't that be Newcast'le? :D:D

If you guys like hot winter beverages, I have a couple of great recipes for Tom & Jerry batter & Hot Buttered Rum batter. They store in the freezer; you dig out a large spoonful, add to rum, nuke...mmmmmm nummy.

In no particular order:
Rum and Coke
Margaritas
My father in law makes a great old fashioned
Mai Tais are pretty good. The best I've had was in Hawaii
And finally, one I used to drink at the bars in Ames when I was in school, a Kansas City Ice Water. Always good after pounding some pitchers

KC Ice Water
  • 1 fluid ounce gin
  • 1 fluid ounce vodka
  • 1/2 fluid ounce lime juice
  • 1/2 fluid ounce triple sec
  • 3 fluid ounces lemon-lime flavored carbonated beverage
