Just because he doesn't have huge ups doesn't mean that he isn't athletic. He looks very quick for a guy his size. I think he will be really hard to guard against. With his size he can easily shoot over or post up smaller players and he can also put it on the floor and drive on bigger players. Offensively, he will contribute right away. It's his defense that might limit his minuets next year.

One thing that I noticed is that he doesn't elevate to much on his jump shot. Hopefully he doesn't get blocked to much. But I'm pumped he's coming, he will have a great career at The Iowa State University!

You don't necessarily have to be able to jump out of the gym to play big, IMO. He's not super tall, not super explosive, but he looks like he has a pretty good wingspan and most importantly he's fluid, smooth and smart.

He can still be a dominant post player simply by mastering body position.

Not a great leaper, but he seems to have shot techniques that might reduce the block-risk. Finds ways to get the ball up away from defenders. Not quite like having a sky hook, yet a similar effect.

My Cyclone hope HOPES that by the time he's a Sophomore... that he's put on a ton of muscle, up to the 250 range or better in weight, and has somehow grown an inch to be 6-8 :)

He's clearly not that athletic. But he's clearly crafty and just "makes shots." He's going to be the guy that always outworks the other team. Opposing fans are going to dislike him a lot because he won't look athletic when he does a post move or drive to the basket, it will look like he's throwing up crap, but it'll go in.

Not sure what kind of "ceiling" he has, but Freddy is pretty excited about him, and that makes me excited.

He already has some strength. He doesn't dunk with his leaping abilities. It is almost like he rams the ball through by pulling the rim down with the ball as he dunks. No windmill fails for him!

First, thank you for the admiration. Can never have too many Georges fans.

Last time he was measured (August, 2011) he was 6'7". We haven't measured him since then. Someone else posted the 6'8" comment.

I will keep you posted if there are any significant changes.

He doesn't look that big on the videos. Maybe because he has some beef to him. I really like his inside/outside abilities. And I love the way he controls the ball on his dunks and layups, especially when fouled. If he is teachable, college coaches will be able to help him tremendously because he seems already to have a fantastic sense of the court, the ball, and his opponents.

Georges - Jumping, character

GeorgesFan, would you comment on Georges' (how is that pronounced?) jumping ability?

In the Boston Massacre video, Georges most of the time when shooting elevates only several inches. Makes me think this is more habit than limitation, because one video shot of him driving for a layup he appears to be 30"-36" off the floor. And, he now dunks authoritatively, so he can get up. Has his vertical been measured recently?

Some fans here are only concerned with winning, they would embrace the worst thugs if they were able to help ISU win. Many others here recognize that character not only counts, it reigns. From what little I know of him, Georges is a high character guy, which is why he is a favorite of mine now, even before he reaches campus. I'm thrilled he chose Iowa State University.

I'm all for high character to go along with ability. I don't know much about the newcomers, so that's good to hear.

Game-wise, basing this only on highlight reels, but a lot to like. Smooth and natural inside moves with ability to shoot from outside. Not a bad combo. Great possibility to take advantage of defensive matchups.

Thanks for the Georges support. I just call him George!

I have no idea what his vertical is. It is not something I talk with him about. I am confident however that with strength and conditioning training and age (maturity) that it can improve. That is one of the reasons why he was always underrated. Everyone looks at the high flyers and finally they could not ignore the fact that he was outscoring all his opponents.

When is Georges planning on coming to campus / start classes?

The thing that is especially good about this is that he isnt just beating up on small schools and scoring over other players who may not be elite athletes. He is playing big time schools with big time talent and big time athletes and still producing more than others. That is what is so encouraging, to know that even against the type of talent he will face in the Big 12 he can still produce.

Also after watching the video it is pretty obvious Niang just has a set shot. It is how he shoots and a lot of shooters shoot that way. As long as he can get it up and over defenders he will be fine, and I'm guessing that won't be too tough because I imagine him as a spot up 3 pt shooter (kind of like Booker) so he won't be taking a lot of contested 3s.

Re: Georges - Jumping, character

He will be starting classes June 11th is what I was told. We should arrive on campus the 8th or the 9th to get him settled in.

Well, as much as we have already become huge fans of you and your son, I hope you get a chance to stay long enough to attend a couple of Capital City Classic games (hopefully decked out in Georges gear) so we can meet and say thank you!
