Thanks, I believe that Georges will be fine. I am just like Fred....not scared.
May I offer a suggestion? Don't reply to hatred and ignorant posts. Better yet, use the Ignore feature to avoid having to read their posts. We love getting your personal take on things, but a message board can be a brutal place for a parent. A few precautions and being able to overlook the crud on our site may help you protect yourself as well as keeping you engaged with those of us who really want to interact with you on a more reasonable basis.

But I was really enjoying her ripping apart the haters! :(

I'm not a post count guy but it seems like a lot of the negative/stupid posters are newbies. Trolls or children would be my guess.

Was not impressed by his video one bit, give me Clyburn and Ejim all day over this kid. Maybe 2 years and 30-40 lbs later and I'll be thinking differently. ONLY judging from highlight tapes, hope we DON'T actually depend on him for production. Hope he is a great Cyclone too.

What didn't impress you about his video?

But you aren't comparing Georges to Ejim or Clyburn when they were a HS senior. Georges already has skills that not many 18 year old guys have.

I'm not expecting us to rely on him at all this year, but I bet there will be games where he shines, much like Percy did in spot action this year.

GeorgesFan, I've got to clarify. I'm a huge Georges fan now, even before your son has settled in Ames. I asked a question about his vertical out of curiosity. I did not ask it from a criticism perspective. Just wanting to know more about Georges' game.

Want to do my best to make this clear: I DO NOT want to be viewed as one of the negative fans here. Because I'm not. Just sayin'. <g>

Geeze we have some idiots on this board. The guy has put up huge numbers his entire career playing against teams that are loaded with high major talent.

Its not as if he's dominating the CIML

No worries, I did not interpret your questions as negative at all. I just don't talk to Georges about his talent or ability or what he needs to do to improve. He has enough people in his life for that. My job, as his parent is to support and encourage him to be the best person he can be and leave the sports development to the experts.

Many cyclone fans will attend the Capitol City League (CCL) games and tweet and post on CF about the games. We fans ge into it - probably more than we should. Check back here weekly, and I'm sure you'll get info and perspectives about the play (As I'm sure you already realize, some are more insightful than others, and you'll need to take some with a grain of salt or bite your tongue. Last year, Chris Williams went to several weeks games, and produced nifty little highlight videos for each player. Hopefully he will do that again.

Another note to add: he is really good with his left hand. His post game is very complete for a kid that age because he does not favor one side.

That left handed baby hook is a thing of beauty.

I think it is a great comparison. He reminds me a lot of Doug.

It's not your fault it looks like the cyclonefanatic app has a little bug right now.

I agree with everything with everything you said there. I think his athleticism is his biggest weakness and I'm pretty sure he has admitted as much and has worked hard to improve that. I imagine it will get exponentially better in the next 1.5 years or so working with a Big 12 strength and conditioning staff. The good news is that he is so skilled that he still produces. That is the key. If he adds athleticism he will be extremely good for us in the future.

Yes, Yes and Yes.

Looking forward to all of this and Georges success....

Here are some details that most don't know unless they are from this region and have watched over time.

His athleticism has been improving nicely over the past 3 years and the good news is its still getting better. If you ask him he always talks about getting stronger, quicker and ball handling. Both stronger and quicker will and have resulted in a better vertical. FYI, he weighed around 160 lbs when he applied to Tilton for his freshman year. 2 years later he was at his current weight.

I expect great things from ISU training staff...

Georges relies on getting his body into the defender (hard for defenders to jump if there is contact prior to going up) for most of his post play. He then uses the opposite hand to score, or a baby hook or a spin move, reverse etc etc. These moves don't rely on elevation as much as spacing himself from the defender with his body and or using the rim (with regard to reverse). He is thick (but relatively lien) through his hips and not easily moved and gets the ball out of his hands quickly, ie no time to load up...just score and move on.

His defense is primarily through his feet and position on the court prior defending his man with the ball. He is rarely out of place and that helps a lot while often talking to his team about position and working together. Everyone gets beat at times but defense is very fundamental and as long as your moving your feet well and are not out of place you can be very affective. Next level will no doubt be a challenge on defense.

Rebounds are also a direct result of being in the right spot and doing the fundamental things like boxing out. Playing above the rim is valuable and with good boxing out skills a player can own the rebounding.

Here are a couple really cool quotes from opposing coaches that I really enjoyed reading this year,

Brewster Coach Smith

“Other than any member of my team, if I had one final possession and needed a bucket to win the game, I'd take Georges in a heartbeat,â€￾ said Smith. “He can flat out score. It doesn't matter if it's posting up, shooting three-pointers or getting to the free throw line, he's an absolute warrior.â€￾

___________________________________
Saint Marks Coach Lubic:

“We were very concerned about George,’’ said Lubick. “I think George Niang, in terms of how wise he is as a basketball player, might be the best I’ve ever coached against. All our preparation on defense was about trying to stop him.â€￾

Thanks looking forward to updates. We are pumped that cyclone fans are so emotional.
