It is a good list. But I feel strongly that there is absolutely no reason we can't get a great coach that is currently a successful head coach. I hope we put the full court press on one of these successful head coaches!

I agree; I will be somewhat apprehensive with an Assistant Coach, unless he's from a marquee program.

I have been saying MARK MONTGOMERY since January this year. Michigan State Assistant Coach.

Player Bio: Mark Montgomery - MICHIGAN STATE OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE

Now with Grayer...(Flint, MI) connection....they can bring top players from Michigan just like Orr did. This is my thought for the AD-

Same here, this has been my guy. Say you can keep Grayer, Nurse and Otz you would have three pretty good recruiters and Nurse would be a great in-game coach on the bench.

Ah, I see. Selectively give credit to head coaches when it fits your argument and when it doesn't, give the credit to the assistant coaches.

Most high school coaches and parents of players had already heard of Larry's reputation as a jerk-face and steered kids away from Iowa State. We blew an opportune time to finally get great High School talent all because of Larry's rep.

The only thing left for Larry to recruit was JUCO's with dysfunctional behavioral issues, poor grades, a few illegit kids and some with arrest records.

So far Mark Montgomery would be number 1 on my list. The style that some of the other asst coaches run dont really excite me.

Credit is being given where credit is due. The evidence speaks for itself. Plus, you are welcome to ask Stinson and Blalock (among others) who was primarily responsible for their recruitment to ISU.

Great way to think back on old players that took the program to a special place. :jimlad:

Half of which never made it to campus.

How many games has Nurse won in the college game? How many championships?

He won some games at Grand View many years ago. Recently, and much more relevant to the situation, he's also been very successful with D-Leaguer's, many of whom are players fresh from college.

Yeah, the guy has been under Izzo for 7 years +..... a very good program over there. I think he would be excellent at ISU.....a good start at a BCS school for him..... (and Izzo isn't going anywhere for a while.)

My top 3

Greg Gard-Wisconsin style would work well in Big 12. Great recruiter in Minnesota i.e. Jon Leuer and Jordan Taylor. Well respected and a good coach. Meticulous when it comes to details.

Paul Lusk-Purdue assistant-Family ties in Iowa. Hard worker. Very personable. Gets the most out of his players. i.e. Created a monster in Jajuan Johnson.

Josh Pastner-Memphis-This is a stretch, but may want a piece of a big time conference. Tireless worker, man of his word, and amazing recruiter.

Know all 3 guys and would jump at the opportunity to have any of them as a head coach at ISU!

From that list, my top three would be;

1) Gregory
2) Montgomery
3) Randy Rahe

I actually hung out a bit with Mark Montgomery when I was going to grad school at Central Michigan. One of my best friends was a manager for the basketball team while Montgomery was an assistant coach there. Cool guy. I know he wants to be a head coach and is chomping at the bit.

1. Brian Gregory
2. Montgomery
3. Reggie Theus (liked his mustache when he was a player)

In the end, just get me a guy who can recruit and get some players to Ames.

You're forgetting the 25-point butt-pounding Steve Alford delivered to Larry in Hilton; making it one of the worst losses in Hilton history.

oh, and Not to mention the 1st round loss in the NIT that Alford also delivered on Larry-'Can't Travel with the Team" - Eustachy.

Thanks Larry; continue in your mediocrity at So Miss.
Yeah, I gotta agree here...
If LE, was lighting it up in the Southland, sure give him an interview. But this is a chance for JP to make a solid shot to retirement (for himself) with a "very good" hire. The opportunities are out there, I just pray we land a great one... and welcome back Hilton Magic!
