So you can't hold the guy in charge responsible for so many of the players he recruited and mentored not following obvious and strict rules?

I mean, $4 million dollars. Per year. Over several years. To one guy.

What happened to 5 star culture?
Sure he should have some responsibility, but have been around college programs? I got news for you, the difference here and at Iowa is state law, and the fact that they were dumb enough to not realize how good the apps are, and how tightly the services monitor and report.

There are student athletes here and everywhere else doing PEDs, drinking underage, illegally smoking and possessing weed, skipping class, cheating in school, all kinds of things that are against team, university or NCAA rules. It’s dumb they did it, and the program and athletic department could’ve done a better job hammering the detection/reporting requirements of the apps. But considering we’re in a state that celebrates how great a guy the other teams coach is when he tried to cover up a sexual assault, I’m just not going to freak out about Campbell, and I am fine with giving him a long leash.

Probably what I’ve been trying to convey, but much better said.

Campbell has done a good job overall with the team culture, but college-aged males can be straight up dumbasses at times. Even the best coaches aren’t going to completely cure that. TJ is a good culture coach, and he will still have guys get in trouble for various reasons. Just part of the job; it’s all about how you respond as the HC.

JFC we lose to Iowa by 7 points and have a chance to tie the game and some are going nuclear. I really really hope TJ makes it far this year in the tournament because if we only make a Sweet 16 we may have some of these types of threads pop up.

This is a $1 billion statement. Vans and Ohio State wanted fired after the Indiana game that they won 23 to 3.

People are freaking crazy….

It’s all relative… After you’ve won X amount of times over a couple seasons, not only is it criminal to go backwards, you basically have to always be moving forward!

It’s insane… And it’s on every board.

Iowa State was 4–8 last year and a highly, highly competitive 4–8 at that.

Prior to that they had, had 5 winning seasons in a row. In an era where CFB has never been more competitive. I looked up historical scores & went clear back into the 40s and couldn’t find another time they had 5 winning seasons in a row..?

And this is no, “Iowa State can’t do better type of ********” this guy is a good coach at a historically difficult place to win.

It can all go to hell in a hurry… I get tired of the same BS on Iowa’s board, but again it’s not Iowa, it’s not Iowa State it’s just never enough…

My Lord Texas hasn’t been the same since Mack Brown basically got forced to retire. USC is only now recovering since Pete Carroll left….

Firing a coach, especially a good one rarely leads to immediately good results!!

Wow, based on the previous comments it is pretty much acceptable to be mediocre! Yes, Campbell has had some success but the recent trend is back to our traditional losing way. I agree that the Iowa game is only one game but to go 1-7 against the Hawkeyes is pathetic! Just look at the instate recruiting for 2024. We are getting dominated by Iowa. Campbell has stated that in state recruiting is a priority!

Campbell seems to be a good person and has great values. I don't care! Winning is all that matters! If he can't produce winning football we need to move on from him. Go Cyclones!

If he continues to suck against Iowa but still wins overall including winning conference records does this hold up?

Just beat the bastards at home. Give the fans some joy. Bending over like a new cell mate gets old after all that butt ramming on your own turf.

We might not like to hear this, but Iowa is about to become less and less of a peer to Iowa State (which contrasts with the past few decades where more parity was being achieved in Ames).

The Big Ten money/NIL money out east is hard to ignore. It's not going to be impossible to beat them, but the "P2" thing is going to be more real for at least the short- and medium-term future. I'm sure the Cyclones will do their best, but it is going to be hard for anybody to stand up to that money.

The way I think about it is this...

Once Texas and Oklahoma leave, winning a Big 12 game is rated a "+1" and losing it is a "-1." I don't give any particular game more or less credit because the Big 12 schools are all at a peer(-ish) level.

Assuming the Iowa series continues, beating them is a "+2" but losing to them is a "-0.75." You should get extra credit for beating somebody who isn't a peer but shouldn't be punished too harshly for losing to them for the same reason. Think about a less extreme version of playing Kansas in basketball in Lawrence -- a win is amazing and should be celebrated but a loss shouldn't be too shameful. It's an unfair game there.

FCS teams and G5 teams is the opposite -- little credit for victory but huge shame for a loss.

This is a serious situation and if it doesn't turn around in the next two quarters this will be the game people point to as the beginning of the end, regardless of how much leash Campbell has left.

It wouldn't be on the level of FAMU, but it would be that loss where you really can't make an excuse for it, and sows pessimism in even the supporters of the coach.
