Campbell has proven the prestige and history of the program doesn't matter. If anything it would hurt the chance of him going there. He seems to care much more about realistic expectations, freedom, and teaching young men than money, notoriety, or football history. That being said I was also very nervous when Urban Meyer was let go at Ohio State but they moved on to Ryan Day pretty quick.

I just don't see him as a win at all costs, even if that's the ultimate mt of the process. I don't think he would get the support or patience to do it his way at another school and honestly to go chasing thar "big fish" and not get BCS champ or driven out feels like it would create a huge internal dissonance.

I can't believe that CMC would be interested in going to Nebraska. On the plus side, the Big 10 schools are going to have a lot of money to throw around, but look how fast NU has been to get rid of coaches in the past years. Why would he want to go to a place that will be ready to fire him in 2 years if he doesn't win 9 games?

Benjamin’s. That’s the one big thing the new tv deal will accomplish. Every coach in the Big 10 is going to be on another level of pay. Coaches will be making more there than the NFL by quite a margin.

Campbell could stay at ISU and his grandkids would never need to work a day in their life. And of course if you’ve ever heard Campbell talk that wouldn’t fly with him anyway.

Campbell is going to leave when he feels it’s time, and he’s going to go for the right job to him. He has time to see how Freeman does at ND and how realignment/NIL affect the landscape of CFB.

Before anybody framed this as a Nebraska vs ISU job debate it’s not. The point is there are places that will hire Campbell that are far better jobs than Nebraska.

Whenever non-Iowa State fans ask me why Campbell would stay at ISU I use Nebraska as an example in response.

Bo Pelini in seven years as head coach of Nebraska won at least 9 games in each of those seven years. If Campbell won at least 9 games every year for 7 straight years at Iowa State, fans are clamoring for a statue outside the stadium (that Campbell would probably be against.)

I don't know if Campbell is at Iowa State for the long, long-term but it has become evident that he realizes that not every opportunity outside of ISU is a grass is greener on the other side situation.

Perhaps a coin would be in order?

Per the national media, Campbell was good as gone to go to the likes of a Pittsburgh after 2017. Our boy Kirk Herby said something like “I don’t make the rules, Campbell is gone”…didn’t happen.

Since then Campbell was “all but done” to leave for Tennessee, Florida State, Tennessee again, then USC yet here we are entering his 7th season, 2nd most tenured Big 12 coach. The national media can spew all they want, I think Cyclone fans have learned to just ignore it.

I’m not saying he will never leave but he has the leverage (and every right) to wait for the prefect situation. Me personally, I was sweating bullets when the Notre Dame job opened up, fortunately they hired internal. IMHO, if he was offered the ND job, he would have been gone. Ohio State is also on that list.

This is very true, but if we had the sustained success Nebraska had, you can be certain there would be a significant portion of our fan base that would become entitled as well.

That’s not to defend Nebraska fans. It’s absurd to expect perfection…plus they’re especially delusional (and odd)…but we would most certainly have our share of entitled fans.

I can't tell if its a compliment or not that Nebraska keeps looking to Iowa State to improve. First Fred, then the failed attempt to hire Pollard and now CMC. Nebraska fans are more delusional than Cubs fans or Texass fans. This is always the year they are back and then its maybe next year.

Vast majority of comments I read from Sker fans is Campbell isn’t good enough, specifically can’t recruit.

And that’s exactly why Nebraska will now suck for eternity.

Same reason their lifetime Husker coach yesterday thought an 11 point lead mid way through third quarter wasn’t good enough yesterday.

Nebraska is a really bad job, everyone knows it, they will have trouble finding serious candidates. Sure they will get someone that will take the 50m contract but it won't be anybody any good.

TIny population to draw local talent from (half the people of other small pop states like Iowa, Kansas, and Oklahoma).
Most remote location in entire conference recruiting footprint.
National Championship expectations every year regardless of how horrible the team has been.
Worst basketball program in NCAA history.

What’s not to love?

Big Ten fell into money in spite of their Nebraska, Rutgers and Maryland adds. The one truly golden move they made was adding Penn St to go to 11, once they made that addition they were truly too big to fail on a large enough timeline. Probably adding USC will be the next one that actually gives them legit growth and quality.

It's a very hard job, very hard to recruit, a really dated stadium, middle of nowhere, with impossible expectations. Plus Trev Alberts is your boss. Nebraska is a dead end job.
