Yeah at this point there isn't much of a point of a press conference, but if that's what Fred wants I have no problem with it. He's always welcome here and I'm sure he will always play a small roll in Iowa State whether he's technically employed here or not.

Come on, CW, ask him about the "nut cup." You said you were going to ask him about it this summer.

Fred - so money and the NBA is worth leaving your parents and the kids grandparents?

I don't get how that is hard for people to understand. It's not like he never left home for the 10 years in the NBA. Every soul that reads this website would be willing to leave their parents backyard for an NBA gig.

Edit: Also, stop demonizing the idea of wanting to make more money. You sound like jealous socialists. Don't lie to yourself, you'd take a new job for double the money. Even with a competitor.

Agreed. If he wanted to say goodbye to his former players he needed to do so before he left for Chicago.

How many times have you left a job and come back a few days later and addressed your subordinates? It's over, it's done, time to move on.

Many of them were not yet on campus.

Kind of hard to be mad at him. "Hey why did you leave your players?" Oh wait, all of his players more than wished him well. They understood better than fans.

That's because nobody in their right mind should be mad at him. This is normal cycle for coaches, namely ones that have lifelong aspirations to reach the NBA. It's silly to funnel anger at him over it.

I think majority of fans are disappointed, just like the players are. The majority of ISU fans wish him well with the Bulls and hope he has success. Being a life long ISU fan, I have been disappointed numerous times and will be disappointed again, but you have to move on.

Gee, current players are not critical of how Fred's decisions (or lack thereof) impacted recruiting and future seasons after they exhaust their eligibility?

I am glad he took an NBA job this year and wish it had been GS last year, as Fred handled this about as poorly as one could.

I expect nothing but class from Fred. I'm disappointed that he is gone but he has shown his class and poise in how this has all been handled. He didn't have to speak to anyone at the airport, nor did he have to talk at length during his intro for the Bulls job about Iowa State and the state of Iowa in general.

I'm glad that he's going to give another press conference. I expect him to answer some of the hard questions we all have on our minds.

How dare Fred think about his health and his family before the players, the fans and the university!!!!

You do realize that many people move away from there hometown, right? And for far worse jobs than head coach of an NBA team.
