The reason Fred is coming back today is to hang with the guys since he made the decision while most of them were at home and not in Ames. He wanted to have an in-person team meeting to hang with the guys one last time.

I'm holding out 1% of hope he decides it was a bad decision and wants to be our coach forever. Then Jamie Pollard and him sit down in front of the media and sign a new $5 million dollar contract (with $5 million buyouts) and shake hands. Streamers shoot out from behind them and the Iowa State band starts playing the fight song in the background. Would be the greatest day ever.

I get why some feel an exit conference is unnecessary, but I think Fred feels like he owes it to his hometown community, university, local media, players, and fans, just because he was silent for so long. I can't imagine it will be easy for him, nor us listening to it, especially if anything comes up that we think we're hearing 'spin',.....BUT you know he wants to publicly thank alot of people, I'm sure. Guess I'm in the camp that thinks he deserves to get to do that.

Kind of hard to be mad at him. "Hey why did you leave your players?" Oh wait, all of his players more than wished him well. They understood better than fans.

I agree that the well wishing was probably honest, as The players likely all think very positively towards Fred.

But I'm still surprised how often people cite a public comment as necessarily 100% genuine and not the public face.

If someone asked Hoibeeg was eg BDJ a problem last year, and he said no, would you take it at face value?

Mad might not be the correct word, but if you look back at some of the Hoiberg threads pre-Bulls announcement, there were several posters here that wanted the media to ask him the "tough" questions (i.e. About the interviews with the Pelicans and Magic, what he said to Diallo, etc). Not saying I'm in that camp at all, but I am interested to see what the local media will ask him tomorrow.

I liken it to someone who is dissatisfied with a company due to poor service. They tell multiple people about their dissatisfaction while those who are content/satisfied do not feel a need to get all emotional.

It looks like the conference is at 1230 according to the website. Does anyone know if this will stream live somewhere? It looks like it is under the premium services on Cyclones.tv

I just don't see the reason for a presser 5 days after you've left.

On the flip side I think Fred's ability to still have the masses love him even after kicking them in the nuts is why he's been so wildly successful.

This! Freds always been a class act and even though he was pursuing his dream of being in the NBA and now has that opportunity he still wants to do it the right way. This was a very tough decision for him knowing what he was leaving behind, but he knew the time was right and wants to thank everybody for everything that they have giving to him and his family. You don't find many, if any, coaches who would come back and do this type of thing, but that's what makes Fred special, according to my sources close to the situation!

He knows the players are in a position to do great things this next year and have each other to lean on. ISU is bigger then one coach or person and will be fine as well. Winning and time will heal any wounds that remain. Fred get to reach his ultimate career goal and how many of us wouldn't do that no matter what the situation.

Besides, never say never on him returning to ISU in some fashion down the road whether it's to coach or maybe even be the next AD.

Everyone is doing their PR. I am sure the players have good feelings about Hoiberg but they do also want to play in the NBA some day. BDJ had a very nice tweet about Hoiberg.

He resigned. Ain't the mayor no more. Niang is serving as interim mayor until an election is held.

Fred is still the Mayor, don't even try to take that away from him. I think he'll be back in some shape or form, just give it 10 years. Georges has a long way to go before he's considered for student counsil.

Really, all I'm hoping for is a little more information on the decision making process for him. I think it is very classy of him to do this (I would expect nothing less).

I don't think it's classy. He has to know that even though most fans wish him well, there are so many of us who feel disappointment (not disappointment in Fred, but disappointment that we'll never get to see the things we'd spent the last 5 years hoping for, like Fred leading us to a Final Four or hanging a championship banner in Hilton). Why drag that out???

It's time for everyone to move on. This press conference does nothing to help that. I'd like a little more information, too, but there are other ways of getting it out (release a statement) than holding a presser so your smiling mug can be broadcast to thousands of heartbroken fans on the evening news.

When has Fred botched a press conference? He always comes off great in them, even when he is distraught! He will do fine and mend some fences. He won't address everything we might want to hear (or at least not in the detail we want to hear), but he will rally Cyclone Nation to move on in his absence.
