Sorry, but I'm also in the camp of this is a step backwards. When this was billed as a replacement to CyTV for 3rd tier stuff that was a big improvement. But losing conference games to this platform is not great for visibility and exposure. Most people are still cable subs, so they are going to have to add a service to watch all the games.

And you can dismiss the good old days talking about what the TV deal looked like in the 80s, but it had been much better recently. I've been living out of state for 12 years and have been able to see all of our conference games via ESPN networks that entire time. That has been a great arrangement.

This is not going to be mainstream anytime soon either. You aren't going to be able to walk into any old bar and restaurant and see an ESPN+ game, that is exposure lost for the league. They will just roll with whatever is on ESPN with their cable package.

And just to tack on one point

People are unbelievably confused when it comes to streaming. Just on CF there are questions about how to stream.

Throw in ESPN+ which is already confused for ESPN 3 or whatever

Going to be some very confused folks out there. Note: the game will not be on channel WOI

If you don't want to pay (BTW, you have to pay for regular ESPN too), you can always tune in to the Cyclone radio network or listen for free on Tunein.
Or stream online for freeeeee! Reddit, sportsbay...

stuff and let us have free stuff. KU vs ISU basketball on ESPN plus is my last straw. I won’t be nearly as invested in college sports if they keep raising ticket prices and making us pay to watch the Clones. Not worth it. I’ll find other things to do. I know some will blast me but there is to
Much free stuff to do. I know it’s all about money now but
Man I miss the old days.

Plus ISU vs KU deserves big
Monday or at least on ESPN.
Will you promise to do this? You made my day.

The good old days had every single basketball game on ABC. Also the other good old days (last year) had everything on free channels. If you are satisfied with KU vs Iowa State on streaming where nobody will watch and you have to pay. That’s fine

No they didn't. I grew up in eastern Iowa in the 80's and 90's and we had very few basketball games on TV. In fact, my parents bought a special antenna that you could move so that we could try to get channel 5. As a kid, we couldn't even get Iowa State football games on the radio.

And I know that you KNOW NOTHING, but you do realize that the ESPN+ has nothing to do with us building or not building anything, right? It's not like if we don't build anything new that all of our games will be on ESPN.

You really are clueless.

Why is a person like you with all of the answers for all of everything wasting your time on an internet message board?

Rhoho is usually wrong so this makes me feel better.

Why are we letting this guy post outside the ISR Forum? I thought Hoks that continually post outside that forum got the ban? I mean he's not even doing a good job of trying to hide it.
He either needs to learn his place here or get the boot.

Staff doesn't care anymore. There are 5 or so Hawk trolls that post outside the ISR forum and literally add nothing to the discussion.

its a tough balance for families for what you pay for and what you dont
it will end up being more expensive that traditional tv in the end for families; not for single folks; but the content quality is a huge step up
and i can put netflix on for the kids; control the content from my phone and know they are not getting indoctrinated against my approval

the last few weekends though i have just been popping on fox or abc on saturdays with my dinky little tv antenna taped to the wall with painters tape only because its easier than doing all the chromecast dance with the apps etc.
of course ill pop on the cyclones
but if not the cyclones i find myself taking the lazy approach to watching football

Reason #322 not to have kids

Dude, ESPN plus is less than half the cost of cyclones.tv with more content. This move is a win. Plus we’re not going to have to deal with CTVs ****** interface anymore.

We could go back 10 plus years ago where watching wasn’t even an option.

I really didn't follow the McD years all that closely because iirc they weren't as accessible.

And when their games were...yeesh.

I live out of state and don't get back to as many games as I'd like...but perusing the game program in jack trice this past weekend I was blown away by the number directors club members these days...$12,500 per year to ISU, never mind the thousands of other donors, and 46k who bought season tickets.

and then I get to come on CF and listen to people moan about $10 a month to ESPN or $50 to cyclones.tv.

You were only a "Winner" rating away from hitting for the cycle so I came through for you. A rare feat indeed. You're welcome.

I agree. I was just pointing out to the OP that even though most ISU MBB games were on ABC, it was pretty much just central Iowa.

Hey, I am lazy and would love to just let my Cyclone.TV membership auto renew and not have to do anything, but now I have to decide if I will renew for things like VB, wrestling, WBB and even an occasional soccer game and add ESPN+ or just cancel Cyclone.TV altogether.

For what it's worth, it's probably worth keeping Cyclones.tv for one more year. The current plan is all live olympic sports broadcasts for Iowa State will move under ESPN+ starting in the 20-21 season. Cyclones.tv at that time will continue to just have game replays, press conferences, and the usual interviews and special historical features.

If you guys want to be at the same level as the MVC and other small conferences then ok. ESPN+ is where the MVC plays their games that are not on Fox Sports. B10, SEC, ACC all are on espn where most people can watch them with out needing to stream through their internet.
I mean, you do realize you’re just wrong, right? Or are you just trying to mislead people? I’ll ignore the big 10 since BTN’s on basic cable, but the ACC has both nonconference and conference games on the acc network. The SEC has those games on the sec network.

SIAP, but I have no problems with this. This is ESPN trying to make their streaming platform attractive and build it out further. If they want to showcase the Big 12 to make that happen, I am ok with that at this point. I am guessing it will benefit the Big 12 when overall TV rights deals are being negotiated in the next round. It may be odd that KU/ISU is put on this platform, but that game will likely sell several subscriptions on its own - maybe demonstrating further value of that particular rivalry and the ISU brand as well.

Yes, I am all sunshine and rainbows on Thursday morning!

It's not that bad. But I canceled Cyclones.TV when they announced this "deal". I was one of the first that signed up and had it at $60 / year. So I'll sign up for ESPN+ at some point and saved a little money. For now.

Did the same thing. I don't watch ESPN+ a ton, but have seen some benefit. I am not a big UFC guy, but there are some guys I am friendly with in my neighborhood who are. We have had a few solid get-togethers in my man cave to drink Busch, play pool, and watch UFC as a result of the subscription.
