the only reason fuke is on the team is because he plays a solid right field. personally I'd rather just put colvin out there so he gets used to playing it because wrigleys right field is tough. it'll be interesting to see how the offseason plays out. is that josh vitters kid going to be the one to replace rammy?I live a few blocks from Wrigley, up till a couple years ago I went to 20-25
games. Now maybe one or
two max. And I was a
HUGE cubs fan my whole
life. That is the attitude of
many. At work people
literally cannot give away
tickets.
Now the weather has been bad, but the prices have gotten so bad, the games
sooooo long, the product so
bad, and other entertainment
options are so much more
plentiful, that people are just
choosing not to go.
The Cubs have a huge
problem, people like to think
Wrigley was always packed,
not true. There was no one
at those games for many
many years, the
phenomenon of selling it out
everyday really began with
Sosa and the home run
chase. Sure in 89 and 84 it
was packed and a few other
years, but there were plenty
of years in the 90's it was
not. The idea that people
will go no matter what is
false.
Soriano is a huge problem
and will be for many more
years, horrid outfielder and who knows how old he really
is. Ramirez probably gone
after this year. Pena is
worthless. They don't have
one single lockdown starter.
No idea why Fukodome is in
the majors, at least he is
gone next year. But if he is
gone why play him? Just
cut him. This is going to
take a long time to
fix.

If a 21-year-old 3rd baseman that couldn't get a .720 OPS over the last 2 years is called up, I will flip. Not to mention that he is nowhere close to being able to play the 3rd base position at the major league level.

Another good call. Vitters isn't the, or even an, answer. Colvin...sucks. He's another left handed hitting "prospect" with a MASSIVE hole in his swing, a la Patterson, Choi and Pie.
The thread is about Quade, right? He sucks too, and can be held accountable for the **** storm we are seeing, contrary to some on here. He hired his pitching coach, right? The fact that 4/5ths...I'll repeat for effect...4/5ths of the starting rotation has missed time due to injury this year, and that 3 of them (Zambrano, Wells and Cashner) went down in the first week, is a serious indictment on his staff.
There is absolutely no leadership on this team or throughout the organization. I like Castro, but is he ever going to be Jeter-esque in the "leadership" department? I don't think he will, so as talented as he may be, you can't build a team around him.
Hendry blows...no need to go any further than that.
Knock it all down and build from scratch. Need a better GM, scouts, coaches and players. Blow it up

I honestly think that prices/taxes have gone up so much to go to a Cubs game, that fans are now finally saying enough. 9% sales tax and a 12% City of Chicago and Cook County Amusement Tax are added to all tickets. Combine that with a poor economy and this is the product.
For example, here is the cost of 4 tickets (available right now for a weekend game on 8/7 on cubs.com):
4 tickets (Section 436) - $56 each (for terrible upper deck corner seats).
Service Fees: $46.50
Order Fee: $4.00
Fed Ex Delivery: $15.50
Optional Parking Pass - $35
That's $325 just to get into the game for a family of 4.
My greatest fear is that the Hendry/Ricketts tandem have already decided that signing Pujols will solve all their problems, on the field and at the gate. They are definitely not one player away from being relevant. Signing Pujols likely leaves them in 4th place instead of 5th with another Soriano-like contract strapping them down with little leeway to make other moves.
