Speaking of the Cubs, former Cub Ryan Theriot had an RBI single tonight that pushed Theriot's hitting streak to 15 games, the Majors' top active streak.

And? Middle infield is the Cubs' strongest area right now. If you're implying the Cubs shouldn't have gotten rid of Theriot, I'm not sure how you back that up when the Cubs are getting equal or better production from younger, cheaper guys who are under team control for a few more years. If you aren't implying that, what's the point of your post?

Theriot 195 AB, .303 AVG, .693 OPS, Age 30, Salary 3.3M
Barney 201 AB, .303 AVG, .709 OPS, Age 25, Salary 417K
Castro 227 AB, .313 AVG, .765 OPS, Age 21, Salary 440K

The problem isn't Quade. The problem is Jim Hendry, and has been for the last several years. Plus, a worthless team president and a clueless owner.

The greatest manager in history couldn't win with this team.

Not saying Quade has done a great job, but I don't blame him. Cubs have a team of grossly overpaid players, who are below average. Soriano is getting superstar money to be an average hitting outfielder who is a joke in the field. Ramirez is getting superstar money and has hit 2 or 3 homers all season. Fukodome has 5 RBI's after 54 games....and he's getting $12 million a year. 5 freakin ribbies in 1/3 of the season. Zambrano is getting superstar money and while above average, has not been putting up anything approaching superstar numbers for a few years.

None of that is Quade's fault. Nobody has gotten less production from more $$$$$ than Hendry.

Is it Quade's fault the Cubs' have the worst starting pitching ERA in the NL? Is it his fault 1/2 the lineup has already (or is) on the DL? Is it his fault that the Cubs' collective batting average is much, much higher than last year but no one can get a clutch hit?

Quade is just fine. The players like him and he is making the most of what he has IMO.

Now...how Hendry still has a job is beyond me. The guy is responsible for this monstrosity of a top MLB payroll yet has one of the worst teams in the league.

Sandberg or no Sandberg, this team was not going to be good this year. Their starting pitching isn't very good plus guys have been hurt. They have a bunch of aging veterans on the decline and they can't hit with runners in scoring position.

I don't think it is Quade who is causing them to play sub .500 ball.

You really think so? I always liked Rothschild and thought he did a nice job.

I liked him too but the majority of Cubs fans were happy to see him go. They all thought he was responsible for getting Wood and Prior hurt or something ridiculous like that.

I hate to say it but the cubs have been more pathetic than usual this year. losing 5 of 6 at home to the pirates and astros? horrible. I love the cubs but I can't bring myself to turn on a game. can't even get excited when we get 2 on and nobody out because I know the runners will get stranded. pathetic..

They really need two GM's. One to handle the trades at the trading deadline, and one to handle free agent signings and contract extensions.

Hendry is great at making deadline deals and is as creative as they come when it comes to making trades. The problem is they guy overpays for players that have peaked and are looking for a place to land.

I don't agree. It seems to me that most Cub fans like him and blame Dusty Baker for those injuries (right or wrong).

No one could win with this team. This team is awful and anyone who took an impartial look before the season started could see that.

I'm almost hoping they nose-dive to the point that Rickets has no option but to fire Hendry.

Ater this season, the % of seasons the Cubs have made the playoffs under Hendry will be what, 33%? That's awful for a team with the payroll the size of the Cubs. Follow that up with the fact they usually get swept in the playoffs when they do make it I've come to the conclusion that he has to go.

LOL - Ryan Ludwick has the 8th most RBI's in the NL. Good job Mozeliak.

I'm in the same boat as mred - I've only heard Dusty be blamed for those issues (as well he should be). The fact that Piniella wanted Rothschild to stay on following Dusty's firing should tell Cubs fans everything they need to know about the quality of Rothschild's coaching.

I ticked other Cubs fans off with my reaction to Quade's hiring, but this team isn't his fault.

Guys got too old, some are too young. This is a team that couldn't even get me thinking this was the year, and that had nothing to do with Quade. It's just not our year this year.

But the middle infield has so much potential. I really like those guys. Our veteran outfield is well past its' potential.

So we could go firing a manager for losing with a bad team, but that doesn't really help anybody.

That could be. I might be thinking of only my friends thoughts about him.

This year is a wash. After 2011 we will have Ramirez, and Fukudome off the books. At that time we will have the money to go after some younger talent especially a cleanup hitter. Aramis is over the hill and just is not the guy he was three years ago and they for some reason were counting on him to pick up the production this year. Hendry structures no trade clauses in for all of these guys and that is really what is handcuffing the team.

I can't believe Hendry has lasted as long as he has.

The Cubs should do the same thing to him that the T-wolves did to McKale...make him manage the players that he's signed.
