There is more to life then the color of the shirt I wear? I think my head is going to explode. :jimlad:

Personally I think it looks cool, it gets the crowd excited, it looks good on tv as far as the atmosphere and crowd participation when potential recruits are watching, etc.... there are numerous reasons why it is a fun idea. If people don't want to participate then that is fine.

Personally I think it looks bad *** when teams get their fans to dress all in one color or to alternate sections, etc...

The Penn State white out game.....

The Iowa game where they alternated sections...

That Iowa game shot looks so perfect that it doesn't even look real. Kudos to those $%&*^&* Hawks!

I'm hoping you are being funny, but the fact that Kansas is the other team has nothing to do with the Golden Rules promotion.

Unless, of course, you factor in that the only reason we are on ESPN2 tonight is because we are playing Kansas.

If it had nothing to do with Kansas, we'd do a cardinal-out since thats what 99% of our fans have, which is cardinal. That would do a much better job of looking good on national tv.

Hell, look at our merchandise list. 90% is either cardinal or cardinal on white\gray. You see this anytime you look at our fans in a crowd too. If you want to do a 'color-out' you dont use a secondary color, you use your primary color.

It's something that many have said for a long time, but today I've finally solidified my opinion that this fanbase will find anything to whine about.

A gameday promotion: whine.
A tribute to Johnny Orr: whine.

And now I'm whining about all the whining. Whine.

I agree. Just wear the ******* shirt and cheer your *** off people!

Just buy a gold shirt and STFU. This stuff looks good on TV, and catches the eyes of recruits.

I will never fully understand why these promotions are so hard for ISU fans to pull off, or why so many ISU fan need to come up with every excuse in the book to not do something that will only make the athletic program look good to the entire nation and recruits.

Freaking Iowa can pull off a promotion that stripes their stadium in black and gold, but Cyclone fans cant follow the simplest of requests...

Have you seen this thread? It's filled with whiners that don't do anything they don't want to.

I've always hated Gold Rules too. The bottomline is, we shouldn't have to change our color to look different from a VISITOR. It's our freaking color, wear it with pride. Why go out of our way to accomodate another teams' colors?

After reading this thread I will no longer be an ISU fan. Associating myself with some of you people embarrasses me. I'm going to root for Purdue where I can wear my gold shirt in peace.

When does ISU pull out the gold bball jersey's? It seems they only do it when we are on ESPN. Am I right on this?

I don't think there is any question that gold stands out more than a crowd of red. But it's all an opinion really. But in the end, if your school asks you to do it, why not show your support and do it? They aren't asking you to wear a pink skirt! Show some school spirit and join in on what the University is trying to do

Threads like this are one reason why our crowds are lacking anymore. Just get on board people. Wear gold if you got it, if not don't, who cares. Iowa State is not trying to bow dopwn to another school, or trying to stick it to you. They are just tryign to make our homecourt advantage a little better. For god sake quit ********. Just show up and make some ******* noise.

If this thread has taught me anything, it's that next year I need to license and print a **** ton of yellow t-shirts before the golden rules game and cash in on our lack of gold merchandise.

But the fact is, the vast majority of fans wear and own Cardinal. And while Gold technically is a main color, we all know that Cardinal is THE primary color.

You can say it is a primary color, but it is most definitely a secondary one. The marketplace offerings and what fans wear shows that.

Most schools, when they do a 'color-out' use their primary color, because they know their fans will have that color.

Iowa pulled off black\gold since there is much more balance in the colors. You see a lot of gold and a lot of black hawk gear out there. Not so much with ISU. Almost all the stuff you see people wearing is cardinal.

We did this year, for the Cal game. IMO Gold looks way better (even though CA is the only section actually wearing it), so that would be why we do it for our big ESPN game rather than Cardinal. If everybody cooperated instead of ******** about it, it would look awesome (see Penn State white-outs, or the alternating sections at Kinnick photos).
