love to see it, but think we are 1 year away. Sounds like Valley may be the #1, Dowling #2, Waukee #3 and Ankeny #4 overall seeds in the west. Maybe Valley vs. Ankeny and a Waukee vs. DCHS rematch for the next round?

Where'd you get the idea for those seeds? Ankeny will definitely be #4, but each of Valley/Dowling/Waukee is undefeated in district and maxed out on point differential. Not to mention they each went 1-1 against the other two (though that was non-district, so I don't think it's supposed to be considered). I think it comes down to the alphabetical tiebreaker, unless I'm missing something.

If this year is reverse alphabetical (which I think it is), then Waukee would win the tiebreaker over "Dowling, West Des Moines" and "Valley, West Des Moines" so it would be Ankeny @ Waukee and Dowling-Valley. If this year is alphabetical, though, I think it would be Ankeny @ Dowling and Valley @ Waukee.

I'm not an expert at this though so fill me on why the seeds are as you said, because I'm not seeing a way this gets solved without one of the alphabetical tiebreakers for who gets to play Ankeny

Dowling ran their "jet sweep". They run it 6-7 times a game. At the end, it was continuous clock and they were trying to get more than 1 play for their 3rd and 4th teamers.

i bet you thought Oklahoma was classless when their 3 rd teamer ran all over us on Saturday?

Ill give you the first one.

But if they wanted more plays for their 2nd teamers, maybe they could've had them playing up 28 with 3 minutes left instead of bringing them in with 20 seconds left

just a guess based on them giving both Valley and Dowling a 3 seed opponent and Waukee and Ankeny getting 2 seed opponents in this round. No expert either, just thinking IAHSAA may want to be a little more consistent with their approach.

State will do what it can to ensure Valley and Dowling meet in the semis at the dome. $$$$. No way they meet next week

I think you are correct on this and why it was easy for them to view Valley and Dowling as the top two overall seeds in the west.

I see my boys from Gladbrook-Reinbeck rolled BGM Brooklyn tonight, 56-14. I coached junior high there for 6 years, with 2011 being my last year. Those 7/8th graders are on the varsity now, and they were two good classes - athletic kids that understood how to play football and were very coachable. Keep it up Rebels!

Ames
I went to the Dowling game tonight. Honestly wasn't that impressed. Their offense is good, but a team with a better front 7 than Ames would fair a lot better. Their defense seemed pretty lack luster. Easily could have given up 35 or more if Ames hadn't played poorly in the red zone. They'll probably throttle Ankeny, and then play in the real State Championship game against Valley.

In 2A, #1 Clear Lake was stopped on 4th down at the 2 down 20-14 and lose to #4 Sioux Center.

I was at that game tonight. It was fantastic from start to finish, and the goal line stand capped it off beautifully. I didn't think I'd see a better game than that Solon-Regina game back in Week 1 for a few years, but this one was way better.

Also, if Sioux Center gets to the Dome, they'll be about the most battle tested team to ever get there. Had to play CL/GLR (a team that was in and out of the rankings for most of the year) in the first round, then #1 Clear Lake and #2 Spirit Lake just to GET to the Dome? Jesus. Whoever wins that SC/SL game on Friday (which I'll be driving from Des Moines to see) will win the state title in 2A. Book it.

Should be a great game! The first matchup (SL 20- SC 14) was a great game. Too bad these two teams have to play each other to get to the dome. I believe that the only game the Spirit Lake starters played a full game was against Sioux Center. Both teams building strong traditions in northwest Iowa football. Get there early, as it will be a huge crowd for a 2A game!

Did Washington really only beat Cedar Falls by 11? If so, the championship game might be a 50 point romping.
I think both teams had trouble holding onto the ball, it was a really rainy evening.
