I would put serious money on the fans calling for Kirk's head when they become third best team in the state after losing to both ISU and UNI.

As much as I enjoy the Iowa game and the rivalry, I'd rather play Nebraska every year.

Unfortunately, that will never happen unless Iowa State gets into the Big 10, which I don't want.

Big 10 is dying, they tried to cheat like the sec is now and paying for it. It's only a matter of time until bama and lsu are exposed. You think USC doesn't "provide" for their recruits, college football needs a Warren Commision.

My opinion is that with only 12 games on the schedule, EVERY game is important. I'm worried about every game every year. The other thing is that there is no such thing as a lose-lose vs a BCS team. Any win is a good win. If you don't like your schedule, change it. I know that iowa fans think that people nationally will think poorly of iowa if they lose to ISU. But the truth is that they don't think about iowa in the first place. CSU beat CU last week and I wasn't surprised in the least. I didn't expect much from CU just like I don't expect much from iowa.

[h=5]My fear was less that about our ability to flip cards over on cue[/h] and more about how ‘busy’ the design was. I wasn’t even concerned about people getting in their seats (though I understood people’s worries about it). Would it look right if cards got mixed up? 4 years of sitting in the student section, I know how people just grab whatever is in reach, especially when people are coming flying down the seats to grab a good spot. What happened if the cards got kicked off of seats and people put them…wherever? But have to say that the folks at Kinnick pulled it off beautifully. Looks like even the Northwestern fans (LOL) got in on it?
And I hope we never do it again…at least for a long time. It was a special moment, and I think it’s better to come up with something new. Plus, if people are saying that you had tons of paper planes…well…
I still remember the first Blackout game…they had Gold towels …many of which ended up on the field when the refs blew that game. Michigan, 2005, IIRC…

Wow, I didnt plan on reading this whole thread but it was gold. One thing i would like to add is, while some Iowa fans are dumbasses who have never step foot on the actual campus side of town, and expect us to win every game, not all of us are like that.

The hawks think that they are some elite team, they have as many wins as they have ever year, because of 3 cupcake non conference games and more weak teams in the big 10. If they had our schedule and played in the big boy league, They would have the same amount of wins or fewer than us. We do more with lesser money and fewer fans, imagine what CPR would do if he had kirks resources.

College football is quickly becoming a world of the have's and have-nots. In the big picture, both Iowa and ISU lose when teams sink 100's of millions of dollars into facilities, cheat for recruits, falsify academic records, etc.... No team in this state is going to have a Phil Knight type of sugar daddy give them a quarter billion dollars. Nor will any in state school pay for recruits or jump through hoops like the SEC schools have gotten so good at.

No doubt that ISU's schedule last year and this year is tougher. As long as we have a 9 game conf schedule, its a disadvantage for ISU. But unless its actually played out on the field, these comparisons are apples to oranges IMO.

I know this is incredibly unpopular to do, but I don't get into the "if we had Iowa's schedule, we'd have X more wins" stuff. CPR is 19-20, to date. Iowa is 27-13 over that same period. So your telling me that if CPR had Iowa's schedule or resources, hed have what, 30 wins? More? Would Iowa have a few less wins...who knows? Who cares? Lets just **** pound them Saturday and let them be the ones to make excuses.

Lol. Great stuff. I agree, every team with a historical advantage should be given a "W" for the game! Brilliant...

Also, using his logic, when NIU finishes the season with a better record then Iowa, they are the better team!

What the author of this piece (of $hi+) and most of the more idiotic Iowa fans don't realize in the slightest is that while they end up with 1, 2 or 3 more wins a lot of seasons, they play a schedule that has 1, 2, or 3 more wins on it nearly every year.

Since ISU ended the streak in '98 there has only been about 3 or 4 seasons where Iowa had a significantly better year than ISU. Most often it's like last year, a competitive game in reality on a real field, followed by ISU playing a top 5 schedule in the nation while Iowa ends up with one or two more wins via playing the Louisiana Mud Dogs, Tennessee Tech, Indiana, and Sagarain #91 Minnesota who they couldn't even beat. Even Kansas, the one bad FBS team on our entire schedule last year, beat the greatest defense of all time when they dropped 40 something on the amazing NIU Huskies D.

Why would you drop your main rival if you believe they are one the easier games on your schedule?

It's not even a dig against Iowa, our schedule is just that stacked almost every year. We play about 7 ranked teams in 12 games almost every year now, Iowa was 8th or 9th at best last year. I'd say they're 9th best team on the schedule this year but obviously it's too early to really know. I'm guessing they're better than Tulsa but not Tech.

You certainly can't think Iowa is better than these ranked teams:
OU
Texas
WVU
TCU
OK State
Kansas State
Baylor

the writer is delusional and arrogant and dumb.

was Texas our 'Superbowl' two years ago? Nebraska three years ago? Okie St last year?

I remember when Chizik beat Iowa 15-13 in 2007. Fast forward to the Hawkeye Huddle fan party in February 2008 at the Coralville Marriot

The news crews were there interviewing players. The no 1 question to the players? ....."what are your goals for 2008?"

All of them in unison >> "beating Iowa State"...."We have the Iowa State game circled on our calendars"

balh blah blah

It's a big game for Iowa...huge. Always will be. Always has been

Iowa state CAN'T HELP that FreeRentz is a LOUSY gameday coach

If he doesn't care about the game, why is he writing about it?

Just wants another putz on their schedule.

We'll see if the line moves, but bettors don't seem to think Iowa is even close to as good as Tulsa.

That being said, schedules don't matter. just win, baby!

You dont think some fans will want kirk to step down if they lose to both ISU and UNI?

hawk fans want him to step down if they lose a game

so... 4-6 losses a year means they hate him

tough being a coach for a group of fans that expect 13-0 NC's every year

I think it's obvious a bunch will want him to step down if they lose to UNI. Didn't think I needed a jimlad.
