Iowa is good no doubt about it. I still don't think for a second they will beat us in Hilton but that isn't taking anything away from them we are better IMO and it just don't really lose at home anymore.

I have to admit I am a little nervous about their second unit pressing us. We were pretty sloppy with the ball against UMKC press (early on, got better after a few minutes) and even worse against BYU at the end of the game. Fortunately most of the mistakes at the end of the BYU game were made by two freshman guards by telegraphing passes and not pass faking at all.

Agreed. They have the depth and length to press, and Monte didn't look comfortable the other night (nor Thomas).

I'm not that worried about our starters, because with our lineup of bigs, we shouldn't have too much problem against the press, but when Kane's not in there, we may struggle.

Iowa's best offense is related to TO's. Last year, we turned it over a ton and that's why we were out classed.

So far this year we've been much better at taking care of the ball. We need to continue that against Iowa or we'll lose.

Great post.

Iowa is good, they will make the tourney this year. Obviously they have areas where they need to improve, but guess what....so do the Cyclones. It will be a really good game in Hilton in a couple of weeks. It's been a while since both schools were good at the same time, enjoy the competition.

I can't believe how hard some of you guys are trying to put down Iowa and make excuses for the solid beatdown they're giving UTEP tonight. Haha. Just accept it, Iowa is a good team.

I, for one, welcome that and am excited to have a series that excites both fan bases again...not just ours. It should be a good game in Hilton. I hope both teams are ranked when the game occurs.

I will be yelling until my vocal chords give out! Can't wait to play 'em in Hilton!

Not trying to put them down. I'm calling them how I see them. They are a solid team but nothing great. They will likely be a tourney team, but not expecting anything better than what we have done the past two years. As I said before, they struggle to score in the half court offense other than Marble. You will see that tomorrow when they play a team in Kansas that out talents them.

This. They outclassed UTEP by a large margin even if you take away the "cheap" (NOT really cheap) transition buckets and hot shooting they had.

Iowa will give us fits and could easily win if we aren't hitting 3's and/or get our big 3 in foul trouble.

Iowa will probably beat KU tomorrow and many on this board will still not tip their hat and admit Iowa has a good team.

I disagree. We don't have to be hitting our 3's. We have beaten plenty of good teams at home without hitting our 3's. Plus Iowa's interior defense is not very good.

Iowa doesn't have the athleticism to beat Kansas. Iowa has yet to play an athletic team this year that can execute a well on offense. I'll give them more credit if they can stay with kansas until the closing minutes tomorrow. Until then I'm skeptical of how good they really are this year.

By hitting 3's I mean stretching their zone. They ate UTEP (and Xavier in 2nd half) alive inside on defense when they weren't threatened by outside shooting.

I know it sounds kind of funny when taking about sports, but "athleticism" is often one of the most overrated aspects when talking about a good, average, or bad team.

They are not mutually exclusive, (athletic and being good at basketball) However show me a truly great player, and 99.5% of the time they are athletic to go along with their basketball skills.
