IMO he already has. Besides being a good coach I heard that Earle Bruce was a real ****. I'd rather win with an HC who dealt with poor performance than lose one who won't. Don't forget what we're paying PR...

And with that Earle's boys were tough SOB's on the field.
They only lost when out-talented.

With all the offensive talent we have coming in next year, they better make a change if this offensive ineptitude continues. Hate to waste that kind of talent with a ****** OC that doesn't know what he's doing.

no reason not to fire mess. guy has been over his head as an offensive coordinator since he was first appointed to the position. keep the same playbook, put sturdy or klenaikis in charge of the play calling, and DEVELOP AN OFFENSIVE IDENTITY. inept does not count as an offensive identity.

I said it Friday, yesterday and I'll say it again today.

Sage Rosenfels is a future ISU coach, and I could see him taking over for Mess.

Put me in the "You're a ******* idiot" camp.

If you are going to restructure an entire offense, you are going to do it in December, not after a week 1 loss. A coach being fired after 1 game, is that supposed to motivate the players? ( I picture CPR throwing his playbook up in the air sometime in the third quarter, exclaiming, "**** this ****!")

If Mess is the wrong guy, it's on CPR, so why don't you just come out and say that instead?

A Messingham firing is about as likely to happen as a CPR one, as of now. Might as well be talking about fielding a team of semi-autonomous robots, it's as likely.

Wow this is an ignorant post which makes you look like the idiot.

1. No one is discussing restructuring the offense and it's not necessary.
2. I did say it's on PR and that in my opinion PR must fire him.
3. No one has said the firing of CM is likely. It's a message board dip****, people talk here. If you don't want to talk about it, **** off.

It's not style of offense as some people say. As far as game plans we've had some good game plans to start games but we haven't made adjustments as we needed too. I'm also skeptical how much Sturdy had to do with the game plans last year, and how much Coach K will have to do with game plans this year. In the end though they aren't the ones calling the plays.

It's clear to me that if not CM the OC should be Sturdy. Klenakis needs to focus on the OL.

I would think a staff rearrangement of assignments would be the most we would see in the next two months, not firings.

I think that all depends on what type of an offense we want to be. If we want to be pass first, then Sturdy. If we want to be run first, than Klenakis.

I know people are down on Klenakis after yesterday, but he knows what he's doing. I think his unit we'll be greatly improved this year.

I don't disagree but it seems like we'd be best served in the short term for K to put all his energy into the OL.

I think you're right. I'm just of the opinion that a firing now does more good than harm. It's not personal, it's business.

Both are more than capable. I think last year we actually saw a lot of Sturdy's input in the game plan. Time and time again we came out with a solid first drive or two and then Mess couldn't make adjustments, by that point it was out of Sturdy's hands. That's purely speculation.

Sadly, I think we'll see a lot of similar games this year.

You can go ahead and throw me in the keep Messingham group. IMO he actually called a pretty nice game last night. He used some misdirection, a good amount of read-option, WR screens... I actually liked what I saw. To me our big weakness was the O-line. It was down right awful. I love the fact that we were passing the ball on 2nd and 1 from the middle of the field. That's one thing we've never done in the past that I was happy to see. Those are the times when you should be looking to attack. The problem is Sam had about .05 milliseconds to get the ball in the air before he had to scramble. Could we have run the ball and gotten 3 yards, sure, but I'm glad we were trying to go for more. I personally liked what I saw out of CM last night. The O-line was atrocious all night long. Defense doesn't scare me too much. That was to be expected. Wally made adjustments at halftime and we looked much better in the second half. They are a work in progress already improving. The O-line hasn't gotten better in 3 years. That is concerning.

Die in a fire.

I was not high on Mess after last year, but willing to give him another year. If I wake up on Tuesday to learn he's been canned and either Klenakis or Sturdy was promoted, I would be hard all day.

Seriously, I think most of the posters here could call a better game than what we saw last night. Look up Richardson's stats. Statistically speaking, he's far and away the best QB we've had in years, but Mess isn't getting that out of him. Hell, the run blocking wasn't that bad after the TF injury, but naturally we abandoned the run game.

Mess is garbage.

I hate how Rhoads does that. If somebody is underperforming you shouldn't just give them a different position group. You should fire them.

Thinking run last week. Saw the oline play. Thinking Sturdy today.

I think Paul Rhoads is a good "face" for the program to have for media/fan purposes. He needs to make some changes behind the scenes.

1. Can Messingham and promote Klenakis or Sturdy for interim OC.
2. If they can't make any improvements, hire a real OC at the end of the year.
3. Recruit better players--especially on defense. Our football team looks small. We need less fourth tier undersized Texas/Florida players, more athletes from Wisconsin, Iowa, etc. Since 2000, more of our players from Iowa have gone to the NFL than Texas/Florida combined.
