We have two weeks to create an offense that can score. Current coordinator is not getting the job done, it's time to make a change today. I would not fire anyone, just change duties asap.
He needs to be fired. The play calling hasn't gotten any better from last year. 2nd and 1 should never turn into 3rd and 5 and a subsequent 3 and out.
Why do you think we would install a totally new playbook if Messingham was fired or at least relieved of his OC duties? If Sturdy was promoted he would stick with the same playbook. What we need is better gameplans, better playcalling, and better adjustments made at halftime. None of that requires a new playbook.
He'd be a good fit for this offensive line "OK, when they snap the ball, run around like crazy to not get sacked!"
The press box can't hold him.Mess has to go, and I believe we need to go get Mangino.
Plus we do have that Hickory Park thing going for us.
demote CM to Offensive Line Coach, if he doesn't like that, tell him to pack his bags.Promote Klenakis, give him a one year trial basically. If ISU sees absolutely zero improvement, get a new OCMessingham? This thread is dedicated to the exploration of our OC's employment. I would like to see some reasoning regarding why CM should be retained. This isn't a meltdown thread so post one-liners elsewhere. In my opinion CM should be removed immediately. If you think I'm wrong please explain why in detail. Again, I'd like to facilitate some thoughtful discourse here and am willing to listen to reasons for keeping Messingham...currently I see none.
The offense is THE problem with the football program. Whether the OC is Messingham, Herman, McFarland or Cotton, we've had problems scoring points since 2005. The reality is to be Big 12 competitive you gotta put up 40 against an FCS school like UNI. Wally will fix the defense. He always does. But the offense needs to win games, too.
We've had a SEVEN YEAR slump on offense! CPR is part of the problem here for recent struggles, but not sure if that's because he meddles too much or not enough. Herman's offense looked just as bad as Messingham's and he ends up as an OC for Urban Meyer. Something doesn't add up. If the talent isn't there, we certainly overhype everyone over the off-season. Below is how ISU placed in the Big 12 in scoring offense from 2005 to the present.
2012 - 9/10
2011 - 9/10
2010 - 10/12
2009 - 10/12
2008 - 11/12
2007 - 11/12
2006 - 12/12
2005 - 4/12
We were really that high in 2005? Damn that could've been a much better year!
Put me in the "You're a ******* idiot" camp.
If you are going to restructure an entire offense, you are going to do it in December, not after a week 1 loss. A coach being fired after 1 game, is that supposed to motivate the players? ( I picture CPR throwing his playbook up in the air sometime in the third quarter, exclaiming, "**** this ****!")
If Mess is the wrong guy, it's on CPR, so why don't you just come out and say that instead?
A Messingham firing is about as likely to happen as a CPR one, as of now. Might as well be talking about fielding a team of semi-autonomous robots, it's as likely.

We have a play calling problem as well. The other team pretty much knowing what play is coming compounds all the other problems the offense has.Not sure if we have an x and o problem, but we certainly have a lack of talent .
