Is this years' team better than we thought?

ISU, K-State, Arizona, BYU and Utah should all be ranked when the next poll comes out. I would be shocked if Cam.Rising doesn't start Utah's next game. They can't afford another conference loss.

Colorado is also still very much in the conference race. Colorado, KState, BYU and Utah all have a bye next week. The biggest game next week as far as the conference race goes is TTU at Arizona.

Going to be fun to watch that TTU vs. Arizona game. If I was betting, I'd take the over line regardless of the figure....

The whole “we haven’t played anyone” argument is ********. We shut out a top 10 FCS program. We went on the road and beat a B1G team that will probably win 8-9 games. We blew the doors off a team that played last year’s NC team close. Yes, Houston sucks. The offense didn’t play great. I think we’re pretty damn good though. Stop purposely punching yourselves in the nuts and just enjoy it. Even if it goes sideways. Which I don’t think it will.

I actually thought Houston's defense played quite well in the first half and a good chunk of the third quarter, but they kinda broke down once we got up by 10.

Also, hats off to our defense. Holding what looks to be a yes, FCS, but an FCS team that could probably beat much of the G6, to 0 points, goal line stands at Iowa, and making it so Houston never really threatened even when the offense was screwing around a lot and quietly being top 15, top 20 in positive turnover margin means that this unit may actually be one of Campbell's and Heacock's best defenses we've had (although it may be too early to tell)

Slow starts on offense are concerning, yes, but this feels different because even up until last year, we're probably 2-2 with this schedule the way we've sputtered around offensively to start a couple of these games. The fact that we've actually been able to recover at all offensively is a huge green flag, because that's not something we've typically been able to do in the past.

Since we're Iowa State, I'm sure we'll blow at least one game we shouldn't down the stretch, but I was honestly really nervous we'd do that last night in Houston and while it wasn't pretty, it was still a blowout and that is actually something really positive, I think, even if the offense needs to get a lot better right out of the gate.

Tl; dr: I'm not going to put my cart before the horse or count the chickens before they hatch, but I'm actually cautiously optimistic about this team's prospects going forward.

I know this is blasphemous, but I think we drop one to Baylor next week. They are certainly capable of putting up points and I don’t know if we can keep up right now. And Baylor for some reason has just given us fits over the years.

Maybe this is just but cup reaction, but going 1-1 over the next two weeks is a good result IMO.

4-0 feels pretty damn good, but there are A LOT of things to fix and fast. So far we haven't played anyone tough. North Dakota is a good FCS team, but they're an FCS team. Iowa is not bad, but not all that good either. Arkansas State and Houston suck big time. We could end up getting spanked by a few teams that have looked much better than us.

Our pass defense has been impressive, allowing just 102.5 yards per game with 1 TD and 7 INTs. Our opponents are completing less than 50% of their passes (!) and are averaging just over 8 yards per completion. Per COMPLETION, not per attempt. Again, we haven't played anyone tough, and the teams we have played all have a terrible passing game, but still... those defensive numbers are insane!

The defense overall is giving up 7.25 points per game, 255.3 total yards per game, and has allowed only 3 TDs. They have 10 takeaways and 9 sacks.

Offense is more concerning. The o-line has been average at best. Take away that long run by Sama and he really hasn't looked good this year. Rocco has struggled with accuracy in every game. Play calling has been less than impressive as well, but that's nothing new.

Special teams has been average. Our punters kinda suck.
You’re the type of person that gets handed $100 and is upset it’s not $1000.

It won't happen but Utah doesn't seem like a top 25 team and voters could afford to readjust their approach. Their preseason ranking was based on Cam Rising and they've held on to it simply because they haven't lost, and gained a couple places by beating a similarly ranked OSU last week. Rising was a game time scratch for the third straight time last night and any defense with a pulse should see OSU's last two game and be feeling good about their chances.

Agree with everything you said. But we won’t play “anyone tough” until our 11th game. And even Utah and K-State are very beatable. We might not be a Top 10 team but our schedule is super favorable and we have the ability, flaws and all, to win every remaining game. That’s never happened in the history of Iowa State football.

Let’s enjoy the ride.

I cut my hand recently (slicing a bagel, not playing quarterback), got a tetanus shot and could barely move my arm for two weeks. Maybe Rising suffered a similar fate.

I have absolutely no idea what to expect this week. I think Baylor is a quite a bit better team than Houston is, but I think we're capable of playing a LOT better too than we did this week. I feel like it's going to come down to the last few plays unfortunately... I hate the nail biters!!

I think many of us have high expectations and high hopes for this season (CCG and playoffs). We’re not punching ourselves in the nuts, we’re projecting what we’ve seen so far to the rest of the season and hoping we can make some improvements.

Our margin for error is pretty small, which brings a focus on areas that need improvement to go 11-1.

Not really wanting to start this whole thing again, but the big 12 is a 1 bid playoff league, hence the low margin for error.

The Big 12 will get 2 in. I’ve fought this battle and will continue to fight it. Until proven wrong.

I don't know if "fandom" has ever been more enjoyable for me than it is right now. A period when I read the boards and "we suck" yet we just shutout our opponent and are giving up less than 7.5 pts. per game We beat our instate rival. Posters claim there is not an opponent we can't beat and then project us to end up 11-1, why not 12-0? Last week Baylor was going to be easier than Houston, this week Baylor enters the realm of the elite. In the past we've beaten the (highly) ranked Oklahoma's and TCU's of the world and didn't see that coming. Why not relive that this year? We should be smashing the koolaide right now in the position we are in. Later today we should be the top ranked team in the conference, and the new playoff format is begging us to be there. Ditch the nutcups--we'll have time to dig them out if we need them later, and even if so, not all hope is lost. It's great to be a Cyclone!

While Baylor is a lot better than Houston. I'm not overly worried about next week. It's at home, and Jamie is going all out trying to make this a sell out (I think it will sell out). Crowd should be electric.

I think this Houston game was a little weird being a night road game. Won't have that problem at home.

Baylor will be one of those teams where if we can get a lead, they'll probably quit. They've had too much disappointment already this year.
