Our current home was occupied by the same widow for about 50 years. She was an English teacher; her husband passed away in the early 70s. When we first moved in, some of our wall decorations would be knocked off the wall while we were away. I'm guessing she didn't like my wife's style.

Nothing happened for a long time until our daughter was born two years ago. While I was sleeping, I heard my name whispered in my ear and a hand on my arm. There was no one there when I woke up and my wife was still sleeping. I noticed it was cold in the house; our furnace was malfunctioning. I think the widow woke me up to protect the baby. That was nice of her.

Went to check out a friend of a friends house that he said was haunted. they had moved to a different town but the house hadn't sold yet. we were hearing noises all over. very creepy. he said they had to lock their doors at night. the basement we noticed slots built into the basement walls long enough for bodies. about a hour in I was walking upstairs as one of the girls was walking my way downstairs. next thing i know she is full body flying through the air right into me. luckily i was there to catch her. she is besides herself crying and screaming that someone pushed her even though nobody was behind her at the time. that was enough so we decided to leave but i felt something telling me to go upstairs again. i walked into the first room to my right and just got hit witg a blast of cold air(was dead of summer)and could see my breath. just then i looked to my left and there was a person sitting in the rocking chair. and old guy probably in his 80's or so. i obviously ran out and we left the house. everybody was making fun of me and i know what i saw. the next day we were telling everybody about the house as we were looking at some old photos with my mom because she was doing a family tree project. One of the photos had an old man that I recognized. it was the same old man I saw the night before. losing it here a little bit I ask my mom who that was. it was my great grandfather. he died way before i was born. the scary part is that this home was first a residential home, then became a doctors office, a funeral home(we think that was why there was slots in the basement walls, for the bodies). and then a retirement home, then a home again. my great grandfather lived there when it was a retirement home. he died in the room that i saw him in.

She was wanting some action most likely.

I worked in an office that was built in the mid 1800s and had been converted from a home. It was also next door to a mortuary. Once had a client who claimed he saw a full body apparition of a little girl in our vestibule who said she was looking for "Victoria." Knowing there was a funeral home next door, he suggested she check over there and she disappeared.

Another time I was arriving early in the morning and as I was walking into my office I saw the silhouette of my colleague hanging up her coat in her office at the end of the hall, though the lights weren't on yet. About an hour later, another colleague arrived and I went down to say good morning to both of them. I said, "Where did Nora go?" She replied, "Nora isn't here today."

I've always been a skeptic and still sort of am, but there was definitely something going on in that place.

My sister in law heard a noise in the middle of the night not sure what it was that woke her up. She went to check on her son and saw an old woman in 1800's black dress white frilly collar bending over looking at the bed. When she approached the woman turned, walked away and disappeared. She then found a live bat laying on her son's pillow with him.

The apartment my wife and I lived in in downtown Mt. Vernon definitely was haunted. We would see humanoid shadow figures, experience strange transient smells, and have battery-powered electronics go off on multiple occasions when no batteries were installed.

In our current house in Marion, my son spent a lot of time in the basement. He claimed that he felt like he was being watched from one of the smaller side rooms, so he always closed the door to that room when he was downstairs. I hadn’t experienced anything odd in the basement until one day I walked down to the basement and noticed the light was on in the aforementioned side room with the door closed. Through the crack between the door and the floor, I could see a shadow moving back and forth in a regular, smooth motion. When I approached the door, the shadow moved quickly off to the right and out of my field of view. When I opened the door, no one was in the room and nothing appeared to be out of place. A couple of years later, I learned that the teenage son of a previous owner died by hanging himself in the basement.

My house growing up was built in 1909 in a neighborhood called moundview (the old wives tale is they're Indian burial mounds) but never anything spooky beyond old house noises

Our home for the last 26 years was constructed in 1965, initially occupied by a University of Iowa professor, his wife and seven children. While we didn't buy the home from her, we've met his widow and several of his children. He tragically died of brain cancer before the age of 40, reportedly in a hospital bed set up in the dining room. He had an office in the unfinished section of the basement. I don't sense his presence, but we've had three dogs who did / do. A now deceased male Weimaraner would sit and stare at the door to the basement storage area for hours. Following a basement remodel, his replacement, a five-year old female Weimaraner, stares at the new access door. Our 8 year-old Plott Hound, which worships my wife and follows her everywhere, will stop half-way down the basement stairs and whine - he will NOT come to the basement! My wife claims the professor ghost has shaken her awake to avoid mishaps. He definitely moves things so we can't find them, returning them several days later. We all agree our home is haunted, but our ghost isn't malevolent, just a little mischievous!

No, but honestly I’d probably be oblivious to it anyways if it were or if any ever were. My mom claims some from my growing up were but I never noticed.

I’m nervous enough about this stuff even never experiencing it. If I moved into a house that seemed haunted I would never ever sleep and peace out as soon as possible.

Anyone ever worked at Four Oaks in CR, one of the facilities with kids (Bertram?). "The Man in the Corner".

This one is my daughters, she worked there a while, so I should get her to write it up. I remember how absolutely shaken she was when it happened, and then finding out the kids and other workers were already quite aware of it. My atheist, anti-religion kid was asking if we could call Father Chris for an exorcism or something.
