My thoughts exactly. I was really hoping somebody would jump in here and tell me how awesome it was. Still probably going to see it anyway.

I did see it last night and really enjoyed it personally. Special effects and the dinosaurs are all very well done, good action sequences, and I even liked the subtext of the dangers of genetic manipulation. I also like the concept of "training" raptors, which is a big part of the movie. Some parts of it are just a bit cheesy, but it's a summer popcorn action movie.

I saw it last night, and it wasn't as bad as I expected. They did a good job of incorporating the original. I would say it isn't as good as the first, but better than the 2nd and 3rd.

This is the concept that turns me off the most. Outside of that I think it would be fun to just see dinosaurs running amok

Assuming it isn't very good as people are saying, why can't a revival of a sequel ever be any good? Here are a few off the top of my head that were pretty highly anticipated but ended up underwhelming/awful:

Jurassic World
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Chrystal Skull
Dumb and Dumber too
Anchorman 2

One of the reviews I read compared the quality of Jurassic World to Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull. That made me sad. As far as the other movies, I think Anchorman 2 and Dumb and Dumber Too were doomed to fail from the start. There's no way they could have lived up to the originals.

The original Jurassic Park was one of me and my brothers favorite movies growing up. So I'll see it no matter how crappy the reviews are (going tonight). But glad to hear its not totally unwatchable.

which is why this movie (presumably) and the Indiana Jones movie failed for some people.

The same thing would happen if they tried to remake Jaws. They could get the best writers, the best actors, the best director and special effects and it wouldn't matter. What made the movie was the total fear that it inspired. The first time you saw the shark (or the T-Rex in the case of JP) the game was over. You can't recreate that, unless they come up with a memory eraser.

So if you go into this movie expecting to feel just like you did with the original, you're going to be badly disappointed. But if you go into it just wanting to be entertained for a few hours, based on the reviews I've read, I think you'll enjoy it.

It was always unfortunate that the original Jurassic Park, while entertaining, couldn't have been something more than a typical horror/monster movie.

Might be something I check out, but I'm guessing the whole movie was basically shown in the previews.

It wasn't bad. It wasn't perfect though, either. The acting, outside of Pratt, Jake Johnson, and the female guard from Orange is the New Black, was pretty awful. The red haired-female lead left much to be desired. She was decent eye candy though, I guess.

JP hasn't ever really been about the acting though. People watch JP movies for the dinosaurs, and for the most part they didn't disappoint. I won't spoil too much, but the hybrid-dino seemed a little too Hollywood for me. Just a lean, mean, technologically advanced killing machine. I like the classic T-Rex and velociraptors much better. I'd even take the Spinosaurus from JP3 over this new creation, but oh well, made the story a bit more compelling.

Overall I'd give it a 7/10. Hard to live up to the original, much like we've seen with JP2 and JP3. I probably let my expectations get a little too carried away prior to watching.

Decent reviews for a summer flick (which is what it is). I'll probably go sometime next week. Still have to read the Michael Crichton books.

Agree with Pants on the books. Also, Congo (the book) was MUCH better than Congo (the movie)...even if the movie did have Tim Curry in it.

I enjoyed the movie quite a bit. Had a few good laughs. I also was not a fan of the acting from the female lead; would have preferred if the actress playing her sister had gotten that part instead. (I think she played Sheldon's slutty friend Dr. Plimpton on Big Bang Theory) Much like the first JP, I liked that the woman did more than stand around and scream though.

I'll like this movie if they make it about the mystery and wonder of dinosaurs.

If they make it about thrills and action I'm 99% sure I'll be disappointed having just seen Mad Max in Imax a few weeks ago. In the original Jurassic Park my favorite part was the big field with the huge long necked dinos and the main soft theme music, I like the idea of real dinosaurs more than the idea of dinosaurs trying to kill me.

In terms of stuff trying to kill me Mad Max villains, zombies, gangsters, etc are better.
