As rated by Rivals, K-States recruiting classes are usually close to the bottom of the Big 12, usually slightly higher than ISU's classes. Yet with their lower rated classes, they are still able to perform at a very high level in the Big 12, while ISU has remained close or at the bottom. The primary reasons for the difference in performance can be attributed to two things. The first is coaching and the second is player development. Both teams use their walk-on programs to fill holes and provide depth for their teams. The difference is that KSU has several walk-ons who have become all conference players. Several of their starting OL and DL this last year were originally walk-ons. I am not sure if anyone started at those positions this year for ISU. Besides its development of walk-ons, KSU also does a much better job with its recruited players. As for coaching, the won loss records for each teams speak volumes. Coach Snyder, year in and year out has competitive teams. His offense may change from year to year, to utilize the strengths of his players. At ISU, the offense changes from year to year because of the change in the coaches. Also, I think Coach Snyder has a firm grasp of both offense and defense and has a lot of say on what happens on both sides of the ball. KSU football does not change when assistant coaches change. At ISU, I believe that Coach Rhoads let his coordinators determine what happens on both sides of the ball. Two different systems, with divergent results.

Way up there
Wait...you're saying HOF coach Bill Snyder, one the greatest coaches in the history of the game has a leg up on Paul Rhoads?

For those who do not want to read it, I will summarize. Bill Snyder is, in fact, a better coach than CPR.

Its not like their quarterback is from Iowa and his dad went to Iowa State or anything.

Every time I watched K State this year I got frustrated because Waters in fact did want to come to ISU. And we did not offer.

I'm glad this thread came about discussing a topic that has never been discussed at CF before. Simply groundbreaking.

And we now know he was the most responsible coach on the Fry staff for bringing them out of 20 consecutive seasons of losing football.

That is what the man said.

Bill practices same plays over and over until there are no mistakes.

At the time of Waters' recruitment, Sam Richardson had a really good breakout game against Kansas and we had a sophomore backup named Jared Barnett. And you say we should have recruited Juco QB Waters as well?

Yes. And IMO Waters success has more to do with Snyder, his system, and talent around him, than Waters pure talent.

Waters is good, don't get me wrong, but where would Kst be with Sam as their QB? Same? One game worse? 2-10?

Everyone in D1 needing a future QB missed on Waters coming out of high school. It can easily happen when a kid plays for a very small school.

Chris Williams saw Waters play in high school and thought he was a good one then. No, I am not putting words in Chris's mouth. I heard him say it with my own two ears.

Kind of a snotty attitude towards someone who has had virtually nothing but success with essentially the same type of player ISU has access to, don't you think?

K-State and Snyder might be annoying, but damn I wish we had him.

To the OP's credit, at least he didn't start another thread telling us how our BBall team is in a downward spiral.

Note to the OP, use paragraphs next time.

Did he recruit busts or does rhoads and his staff just lack the ability to develope the talant further

However you want to put it: Guys that didn't contribute to a winning team.

Quit, Kicked off, didn't develop, injured, transferred...
