I'll more than happily say I am in the GTFO camp only because it took too long. This was in the works for awhile. I love me some Fred and would take him back in heartbeat(no pun intended). It has affected recruiting IMO. But whatevs. Who is the new coach? I need info!

Just as easily? Fred's a known quantity at this point, a damn good coach. That's why he's coaching the Bulls. Who knows what the hell we'll end up with for a coach next year. Besides, my comment really wasn't meant to be taken seriously. Regardless of coach, a national title is still a longshot next year. That's why I'd gladly take the national title and have Fred leave the cupboard bare.

Fred is a good coach, but just about any coach in college basketball could coach next year's team to the tourney. Many coaches could make them national title contenders just like Fred could. Recruiting is the one thing I'm nervous about, and any momentum we can give the next guy for recruiting is a good thing, IMO. Fred was obviously going to leave at some point, and for the longevity of the ISU program, he picked the prefect time. Just my opinion.

You are mad at Fred because the Bulls were doing everything they could to take a dump on Thibs? Hoiberg had zero control over the timing of this. If you are mad at him for going against his dream job comments or something else I can see that, but the timing of this was 100% on the Bulls and 0% on Fred.
Honest statement, I'm not mad at Fred or anybody really, it's basketball. I hate losing Fred, not going to lie or lose sleep, this is just a message board. The situation sucks/ed. And I'll totally discredit my first sentence here: I HATE THE ******* BULLS! Way before this even happened. I'm a Knicks fan.

That being said, I love Fred and what he did here. The team still seems loyal and supportive. Did he maybe screw up some recruiting? Maybe/probably. At no point was I delusional that he would stay forever.

Lastly......I CAN BE BUTTHURT IF I WANT TOO!

Eh on the interview, Murphy didn't really ask him any tough questions about leaving ISU twisting in the wind, but maybe that comes at the Friday press conference.

Thought it was a great interview. Still don't believe the "it wasn't decided until 2 days ago" stuff though. But he has to say that since the Bulls still had a coach last week.

I do believe it was a difficult decision to leave ISU and the players. But I dont think he necessarily loved the college game. But he did love ISU and the players.
Yeah it's been kind of sad to see fans trash Fred and question his love for Iowa State.

Time will add perspective and heal the perceived betrayal.

Fred will be loved and cheered at ISU forever
No doubt, I was already pretty much fine with Fred leaving and hearing him speak today made me even more okay with it. Most people will get over it eventually.

I still can't figure out why people like Keith Murphy and people's standards for good interviews are pretty low.

I didn't learn one thing in that interview other than fred and many coaches are way too sensitive when it comes to social media etc.

I hope he gets over it quickly. He isn't the mayor in chicago.

From the comments fred has made, it has surprised me a little how much he has used phrases like "that fan base."

I am a little surprised he stayed in college bb as long as he did after hearing his presser etc.

I don't see anything wrong with him pursuing his dream job and only he knows what's best for his family.

Still appreciate what he did as a player and coach.

Very good interview. I kind of think Fred was Keith's source on what was going on this past week.

To the fans that sent Fred bad comments, grow the **** up, we don't need you in our fan base. He can return to Ames anytime he wants.

Yes I was upset about the whole situation the past week, but the Press Conference and this makes the situation seem so much better.

How ****** would we be had Chizik been telling recruits he isn't sure he will be back and let his buddy leave and take a signed recruit with him as he measures his erection over the potential opening at Auburn?

Fred is an all-time great but he handled this about as poorly as could be expected. If you have to tell recruits that and are interviewing, resign over dragging it out until June. Of course, his handling of his affinity for the NBA has been poor since 2013.

In hindsight it would have been better if he had been able to get the GS job. Perfect fit for Hoiball and it would great to see Fred win the title and COY n his first year.

I forgot about the Darrien Williams de-commitment out of this, I'm more sad again.

Half of the posters on here and on Twitter had the same "GTFO" attitude. Guess half the fanbase should pack up and go.

Did they post that to Fred? There is a difference in being upset about something and posting it to them.

Just thought a little perspective might be good, coming from two of those who have the most to lose with CFH's departure: Naz Long & Georges Niang.

Good Lord, was that the first time shooting for the camera man?

I worked as news videographer at WOI-TV while I attended ISU… back when ISU use to own it. All that quick zooms in and out would be edited out for the news so that's how you shoot. That zoom in to the lips and focus should have been done before the interview started but sometimes you have to recheck focus and you do that while your reporter is asking the question. The cameraman probably didn't know they would show the whole interview if he did he would have shot it like a live event... a lot smoother. My 2 cents.

Yeah it's been kind of sad to see fans trash Fred and question his love for Iowa State.

The more I think about it the more I go back to my one brief 1/1 encounter with Fred. It was at a private event and I was showing Fred where the restrooms were (yea I know).

I think back about that now and in talking with another buddy tonight and reading a post on Chizick's look of 'what have I done' after his announcement as ISU's new coach...I think I've come to some conclusions.

Fred isn't JO. He's not LE. He's not even Tim Floyd. I don't think he likes all the attention....having people treat him like a celebrity. I think in Iowa there is no escape from that.

I remember seeing Marty Schottenheimer in KC at a movie theater one night. There wasn't 20 people in the theater and you could tell that 15 of us knew exactly who he was. Not a single person went up and said hi...no one asked for an autograph....or a pic. Nothing. I think Fred would probably be really happy with that.

OK I haven't listened to this interview, but y'all are making it sound like he left cause he doesn't like negative or positive attentions from our fans? Did he say any of that?

He didn't. He left because the NBA is his dream. More specifically the Bulls or the Wolves. Both midwest, both former homes, both people he likes.

Bulls are ready to win now, if that job didn't open I bet he talks to people but decides to return to go for NCAA run and then next year take the Wolves job when Flip Saunders steps back to just FO role and Wiggins is in 3rd year and Towns is 2nd year and you probably got another decent pick.

Chicago can win now. Mirotic, Butler, McBuckets, Snell, and Rose fit great for him and the future is crazy bright with all those guys really young, except for Rose's knees (but Butler and Mirotic are still great building blocks)

If I was him, I would have told Flip to draft Towns and then gone for the dream of winning a title and rode into the sunset and left cupboard pretty bare (no intentionally but would've happened) with Niang, McKay, Long, Morris (leave early with good next season and know Fred is gone), and Nader.

Otz still gets job and tries to rebuild with Burton, Thomas, Cooke for year but now gets better chance with the crew back and a chance to recruit bigs to go with 2016-17 backcourt

Good interview. At least Fred admitted that recruiting has been very challenging with all this going on. There have been many on this board that argue this situation has not hurt recruiting, but it has, again even Fred said so. I will contend that is has hurt recruiting ever since last spring when he flirted with the NBA. This may have cost us some badly need front line depth for next year. Oh well, at least now we an reset for the future. Coffey and Miles Bridges are probably gone though.

The new coach could just as easily win a title with this team and that success could help the new coach in recruiting. Fred staying one more year with 7 potential open scholies next year for the new coach would of hurt the program big time.

Just a reminder - winning a title is really hard. Some of you act like it is as easy as turning on a light switch.
