I fear we'll find out quickly how much Lazard bailed Kempt out.

I kind of don't like this. As it stands, Kempt will walk away a legend, but if you're honest about it, he's pretty limited and a whole off-season is going to help other teams figure him out. Besides that, during the bowl game, his accuracy really decreased and Lazard made a bunch of spectacular catches that got us out of a jam and inflated Kempt's stats.

I'd hate to see him come back, struggle, get benched, and see the legend of Kyle Kempt go out in that fashion.

Of course, maybe an extra year will help work some of those kinks out and he'll be better than ever. I guess, at the end of the day, I trust the staff on this.
Where was Lazard to bail park out during the Texas game?

I think one of his weaknesses was that he telegraphed his throws---everyone knew where they were going. I think that sort of thing could improve. Plus, I don't think everyone realizes that he wasn't working with the starters much before Oklahoma. Working with the guys that he would play with would improve as well.

Those are valid points. I still don't think that would be compare to the improvements that we could see from Zeb, but agree to disagree. Nonetheless, it would be great to have Kempt back for another year, however it would end up working out.

I would almost think that the staff would HAVE to give Zeb a big chance to earn it, regardless. Not just hand it to Kyle, even tho you'd guess he'd be the frontrunner. Otherwise Zeb might look elsewhere. Want them both back of course!
You're only one play away from starting. Especially in our league.

Hope he gets the extra year, we just had the most memorable year of football that I can remember.

I’m glad we have great coaches that will make the decision of who plays come September

Thursday night this week we offered another hs qb for 2018 from Gilbert Arizona named Purdy.

Are you sure he's a 2018? Just curious because I would guess most decent qb recruits would have signed by now, but of course I know nothing about this kid. Not that they are ready, but that means we 'could' have a medical redshirt frosh in Moore, Re-al, and possibly this kid? Would we sign that many qb's in one class so-to-speak?

EDIT: Nevermind....just researched him. Yes, an underrated 2018 qb prospect. Interesting

We could partake of mental gymnastics and consider Re-al part of the 2017 class since he's now on campus (2017-1/2 class?).

So, this fall, Devon Moore will be a redshirt freshman, Re-al a true freshman who plays some (my guess), and Purdy, a true freshman who redshirts (guessing again, since Re-al will have spring practice on him.

2019:
Noland - rJr
Moore - rSo
Mitchell - so
Purdy - rfr
Duggan - fr (hey, CMC has taught us to dream big)

Youthful, but with some separation.

I wonder how many of those on here hoping Kempt doesn't win his appeal were also angered by Park's loyalty turn quote. The kid gave us his all last year, led the team to its most successful season in years, and wants to come back again because he loves it so much. How the hell do you root against that? Good grief.
Find me the person who doesn't want him back.

People sure like to put down a guy that did nothing but help us tremendously and played a huge part in ISU having one of our best years ever.

Regardless of if he or Zeb earns the spot next year, nothing good can come of all the **** being thrown on Kempt for doing everything asked of him.
Lol. Cmon man. No one is "throwing ****" at Kempt. The worst I've seen said is that he throws some wounded ducks. And he, and the staff, would say the same thing about him. Just because some like Zeb's potential, doesn't mean they want Kempt off the team.

Lol, you must not have seen some of back handed completmets from some posters. “He is limited, he makes our offense one dimensional, running game suffers because of him, he won some big games but thanks to our defense, he got bailed out by our outstanding receivers, Lazard saved him”. All this despite he had one of the best season ISU QB ever had. Set highest completion percentage in a season, better yard per pass than Park, very high QB rating, 15 to 3 TD/interception ratio, etc. Oh, I get it. He was extremely lucky (bad passes not intercepted or caught by receivers although it happens to every QB) and able to do all these because of our outstanding receivers. To some ISU fans, back up QB is always better than starting QB.

It's your reading comprehension that interprets those comments as backhanded compliments. That's not throwing **** at him. Why is Kempt above criticism?

He doesn't have a great arm. He's not a running threat.

Nothing wrong with my reading comprehension. Posters like yourself were constantly throwing jabs at Kempt. Kempt is not above criticism but when have you given true complement to Kempt? Have you ever criticized Park for his wild play and mental lapses before he decided to leave ISU?

Our problem against Iowa was not Park. For God's sake, he threw for 350 yards, 4 touchdowns and 1 pick. We couldn't stop them when we needed to. I may give you Texas, but also feel like in the losses down the stretch, we may have benefited from Park. While not all losses, we were terrible offensively against TCU, West Virginia, Baylor, K State and were pretty bad against Memphis, given how bad they were defensively. Without the play of our defense this year, the story of Kempt is much different.

Iowa trolls on here were going on and on about Stanley...it was the inability to tackle Wadley after we had the game under control that lost it for us. Stanley had a lot of yards that were just dumping it to Wadley and ISU not tackling the guy.

I think the Iowa game is a bad example but overall I take Kempt over Park (even if Park didn't have off field or mental issues) because in lots of other games Kempt kept us in the game with smart plays and Park could create problems for himself.

To me Kempt is definitely the best we've had since Meyer, maybe best since Seneca.

Me saying he doesn't have great arm, and he's slow, are not jabs, everyone knows this. I've said that I want him back, and of course I'm happy with the season he had. That doesn't mean I'm going to say he absolutely has to start next season.

I would argue that if Noland does beat him out this off season, then that's a good thing for Iowa St. That means the coaches see that Zeb is better than a guy that got some big wins the year before. If Kempt wins out, then nothing wrong with that. We should know what we'll have with him starting.
