In 2005 the other 7-4 teams were Oklahoma and Nebraska...I don't think isu jumps them in bowl respect even if they would have given them one of their losses...much like Iowa jumping OSU or Michigan (although we did jump Michigan once I suppose).

RF...grant me just a little wiggle room here. In 2005, give KU a win vs. a poor CU team. That makes KU 7-4 with no wins vs. a ranked team. ISU 7-4 with a win vs. then #8 Iowa. Don't you think the isu resume gets them a better bowl than KU?

The way 2005 shook down...that win made no difference as isu was behind the other two whether it was a win vs. #8 Iowa or #100 Kentucky. In some curcumstances though...one big win could propell a team to a better bowl...can't it?

Fair points and good argument. In that scenario I'm not sure what happens since ku beat us head to head. The Iowa win may have propelled us ahead of ku.

Here's a question for you, other than simply hurting your record, how much did the ISU loss really hurt Iowa's bowl resume that year?

Look, I was playing devil's advocate somewhat with this whole discussion. But I do think that the national media pretty much always looks at an ISU win over Iowa as a fluke. 2001 is another example, 2 pretty even teams playing in Ames. ISU won and it was considered an upset. But most people who lived in Iowa could tell the two teams were pretty similar.

2005 was crazy and you are correct that the loss to isu did little to Iowa's outcome. Had they won that game and been 8-4, they would have went to the Outback Bowl...just would not have needed the fan base to get them to jump Michigan (somehow!?) like they did at 7-5.

As far as national media, agreed. Yet as one poster said...once the clones start stringing together winning season under Rhodes (like I think they will), they may still be upsets if Iowa is the higher rated team...but at least it will not be categorized as a fluke. Where they all considered flukes when Danny Mac was handing it to us?

2000-2005 there were 5 bowl appearances by isu...were the 4 victories over the Hawks during that span all seen as flukes by the media?

Matt P demonstrated his historic ignorance by repeating that OLD standard HAWK line, "Iowa has nothing to gain by playing ISU nationally . . . because it's ISU's SUPER BOWL." Way to go Giggles! You are a genius.

BTW, let me help you . . PLEASE do not go to the Iowa/ISU Saturday . . do us all a favor for once and stay in your apartment flipping channels.

Why does KXNO pay someone to just repeat what Hawk fans say while they are beating off?

Are you kidding me...Hawk fans hate this guy!

No one in this market likes MP...until the Nebby fans become more vocal next year that is.

If you disagree with what radio hosts are talking about...call the show! If you agree with what radio hosts are talking about...call the show!

I can't stress enough that calls can fuel the direction of a show. If 75% of the calls to the show are hawk fans the tempo of the show will lean that direction.

(515) 284-5966 is KXNO's phone number. Light up the phone lines with Iowa State fans. Say how you feel about the Cyclones. Say what you think of the hawkeyes. Spew venom. Show heart. Why will Iowa State win? Think of a Tavern Hawk story to tell. Seriously...call! Don't ignore the show or quit listening..it doesn't do any good. Don't run away from what angers you, do something about it.

Good idea . . but remember, they will chop you off at the knees if you try to disagree with Giggles on air. They seem to have this "protect the baby" obsession with him.

Pretty standard tactic in talk radio. If they don't like what you are saying, or especially if you prove them wrong, they will cut you off and then continue the debate alone so they can win it.

Question, I don't follow Matt too closely, but does he dog on your program a lot? He says and does just blatant negative things towards anything and everything ISU (hiring of Hoiberg was my first instance, and then all the transfers that ISU has gotten for basketball is another). Wondering if he does the same for Iowa as well, or what he does exactly that pisses off hawk fans.

Oh really, I learned something today. I have the kill switch and have for the 14 years I've done sports talk, I know you'd think I'd have learned something in that amount of time!
I end conversations to make the show flow, nothing more and thank every caller for taking time to call, not just ones that agree with either one of us.

Here's a link to the least read blog at KXnO. It won't help you're KXnO's afternoon show hates ISU arguement but thought you might enjoy nonetheless.

MP is right in line with Terrell...he pushes buttons by saying things he know will **** his listeners off.

* ISU has no chance Saturday.
* This is the Super Bowl to ISU.
* Iowa will lose to Arizona
* Ect.

Then people call his lame ***** show or talk about him, which he equates to popularity.

Someone posted that CW should have his own show, I'd take that over MP. CW will have an isu slant much like JM slants towards the Hawks, but both would present knowledgeable information.

He's fairly negative no matter what. It's his role. Miller is the good guy and MP and his old co-host Marty were the bad guys. Murphy gets the luxury of being the good guy and then he always has somebody be the negative or realist, like Round Guy or Andy F. It's known to work. Hell, I know nothing about radio or TV, but you can see what their roles are.

MP I think says what he thinks or at least what will help the show. He has had a rough relationship, (on-air at least), with John Walters and JP. I assume that carries through in his take on ISU sports. I'm sure he'll say that nothing bothers him, but as a human, I would assume some of that bothers him.

* ISU has no chance Saturday. Wrong. I think they do.
* This is the Super Bowl to ISU: It's not? Why else are people like my friend Cy Sy shaking over it!
* Iowa will lose to Arizona: I picked Iowa 11-1 with the 1 being to OSU.
* Ect.

My answers are in italics. I thought I'd join in this thread since my co-host already did. BTW - I said the most mundane thing at 6 pm on Tuesday and it's a 8 page thread...and you wonder why I think you guys are way too sensitive.

So far in this thread I've been called a Iowa lover/hater, a Nebraska lover/hater ... and other names...I think you guys want to put me in a box ... but I don't fit in a box - so it's frustrating cause it would be so easy to label me. I don't say things to get people worked up but believe me ... it would be VERY easy to do so. Just read this thread....

Welcome to Iowa Matt. We are a sensitive bunch. We aren't Bostonians, most of us care about each other and respect another's point of view. We don't, for the most part, dislike people unless they give us a reason. I'm sorry that your style isn't the most popular, because you are right, we are too sensitive. Now you know our dirtly little secret. Enjoy your time here.

I wasn't quoting you Matt...more coming up with things that would be MPish to fire people up. As stated above, its your job to do so...I think most of us get that.

As long as you avoid that freakish laugh that Terrell has I think we will all be just fine!

I joined CycloneFanatic two years ago because of what you and Marty said one afternoon. You guys were just about to have Rob Howe from Hawkeye Nation on and I think you said something like, "Those guys do their site right -- real classy not like those other guys."

And Marty jumped in and said about the same thing. So I went home and looked at CycloneFanatic for the first time and couldn't find anything "classless" about this site.

I used to listen faithfully to you guys, but I got tired of the Pollard bashing. It seemed a bit unnessary to me.

And you give one little link and expect us to believe you guys do this all the time in regards to Iowa State? Please.

And you took plenty of needless pot shots at people on this site, i.e. when you ran down "the list of places Cyclones are boycotting." Wasn't necessary at all.

And then there's the defending Jake Sullivan post. And the point of particular post was....?

Show me a blog where you take a pot shot at Iowa (not including the reference to Ryan Bowen going out and recruiting because you took a shot at ISU as well).

This made me laugh. You're calling the fans on here "too sensitive" and yet you come on here trying to defend yourself.

Iowa Hawkeye fans are not like you guys. Nebraska football fans are not like guys. This isn't an Iowan-thing...this is a Iowa State thing.

People have always disagreed with some of my opinions but I've never seen the level of insecurity, starting with your Athletic Director, from a group of fans about their sports teams. Some of you, not all, want sunshine pumpers to tell you that mommy and daddy will always tuck you in at night.

Iowa State fans are a passionate, fun loving group and MOST of my friends here in Iowa ARE CYCLONES. I don't dislike the teams or the coaches but when you get death threats over sports opinions ... some of you are flat out off your rockers.

Why Listen? Because all good clone fans like it when the media gives'em a good Flogging!!!!

What I would tell matty P*** ant is that good old eiu only has to play poor lowly isu four more times, then the Hoax can use the convenient excuse that the big ten wont let them play the game anymore..

Anyone remember the excuse We er eiu cant play Iowa State the last game cause the big ten wont let us!!!

Keep listening to losers like matt and miler and you will get more Floggings....Enjoy!

Yes or no; Iowa has nothing to gain by continuing to play ISU?
