I understand he's in a tough situation but does anyone else feel like he is not willing to fight for anything?

Bubu situation was tough obviously, but he was not willing to give Bubu a second chance at all.

Now VEISHEA happens which was also unfortunate and he just throws a tradition away that has been around for decades.

Needs to start fighting for things and not always take the easy way out.

Yes, I'm frustrated.
I disagree that the decision to cancel a beloved tradition that's been around for nearly a century is taking the easy way out. Just look at the negative reaction on this board.

There's never been any attempt to fix the underlying problems. Only bandages and half-measures, largely because the University is expected to fix messes that are, inadvertently, caused by the City of Ames.

What are the underlying problems you refer to? College aged students binge drinking, partying and deciding to start breaking ****? What exactly is the fix for that? Make ISU a dry campus? Prohibition?

And are you referring to the Ames police when you include the City of Ames as part of the problem?

Do you think that Leath is blind to the fact that there have been 100,000 attempts to fix VEISHEA and none have worked? It's too bad many are treating him as a scapegoat. Leaving things be so that more problems arise in the future and more riots would be a sign that he doesn't care.

Iowa State is supposed to be about creativity, innovation, ingenuity.....when faced with a challenge, they beat the challenge. Not abandon it.

I don't know what to tell you. How long before they should abandon it? Should they wait another 7-8 riots from now?

They should have modded VEISHEA and kept it. The statement being if their is rioting again they will cancel it for good. There was no official warning of this. People bring up events of the 80's none of these kids were born till the mid 90's. Punishing the present/future for events of the past is goofy

Agree to disagree.

Don't see why they couldn't even run Veishea during day time hours on campus...include a parade. Make it all family oriented and still be able to show off the various colleges of what ISU has to offer. As a kid, I grew close to ISU because of the parade and getting to see all the neat things that Veishea had to offer that had nothing to do with partying or drinking.

get over Bubu Palo already!

It's still in the court system isn't it? We as taxpayers are still paying for it aren't we?

As a season ticket holder, I paid for Bubu's education, I guess I feel like I have a right to care about it. Maybe everyone but the season ticket holders needs to get over it, if that's the case, because they aren't footing the bill.

I don't care if Leath is a **** or if he wanted to boot Bubu or if he doesn't care about Veishea. All I care is that he grows ISU and makes it the best Land Grant in America or goes out trying. Veishea can come back...rebranded and back to an academic focus if students want it. Imo this is on the students, not Leath. He has more important stuff to worry about.

Did you forget 2004? This already took place. Are you thinking they should just threaten to get rid of VEISHEA and never go through with it?

How do you know the money you spent on season tickets went directly to Bubu's scholarship? Did you earmark it?

Sorry, but that is just really dumb.

furthermore, if they don't use it on that...it's going to go to something else that may or may not be of any value/use

Do you know that for sure? Does the basketball team get to distribute out unused scholarship money or is that just pocketed into the general fund?

Sorry, but telling people to get over a current court case is dumb. One which ISU appears to be losing according to the most recent rulings and Bubu being enrolled at Iowa State and on scholarship last year.

Why don't you just get over it, that people care. Everyone can have an opinion.

I'm not defending any choices he's made, I'm looking at the outcome and ISU somewhat screwed up on how to handle it.

President Leath is a great leader for Iowa State and the university is fortunate to have him.

He also is one of a handful of university presidents nationwide to have a 100% approval rating from university employees. (Sally Mason has 54% by the way, one of the lowest ratings in the nation.) http://www.glassdoor.com/blog/top-25-universities-work-2013/[/QUOTE

In order to truthfully claim 100% of anything is to have asked the same thing of every possible respondent and every one of those respondents answered the same. That did not happen in this case,

My only major issue with him was losing the Harkin Institute and documents because he was willing to restrict their academic research because of the Mustache.

Didnt Kim Jong Ill get 100% of the votes in the North Korean elections? I thought of that immediately after I read that in your post.
