Niang averaged 30 minutes a game last year. With so many good players available and such a high speed system run by Hoiberg, what do you think Niang's MPG average will bump up to? I could see it go to Ejim's 32 mpg that he had last year. Kane averaged 34 mpg last season but that might be a reach with ISU's roster options. Niang will be a fun player to watch; I like his game a lot.

Out-of-shape Niang averaged almost 17 PTS a game last season. Slim Reaper Niang might average 23 this year, and God knows what his senior year. #beast #watchoutperryellis

He can play 30 minutes better.

Nice to see Oubre on the standout list again. He was listed as a standout at the Kevin Durant Camp as well.

Ya it was really great to see/know that. Especially on an Iowa State website. I tend to spend all my offseason checking in on Oubre and other KU signees instead of ISU athletics. Tuco, you provide so much to this site and you're truly one of the greatest of all time. CycloneFanatic surely agrees with me on this

Way up there
He can play 30 minutes better.[/QUOTE

Niang will kill it regardless of his mpg, his numbers are skewed from last year due to spending so much time on the bench bc of foul trouble. That's the only variable in Georges playing time. Personally I see Morris and Hogue being the top 2 guys in mpg.

Agreed, and I totally agree with Clonefan32's point that he won't find himself in as much foul trouble when he is in better shape. ISU had 4 of the top 14 guys (as far as Big 12 players) in MPG last year. I think their better bench players will spread those minutes out and everyone will be more effective in their time on the floor. It will be fun to watch for sure.

...and to be honest I don't know if you'd want Georges to drop 25 pounds. His post game is based on his ability to get separation from his defender using his body. He's never going to rise over anyone, so he is reliant on clearing space and the incredible finishing ability he has. If he drops 25 pounds, I'm worried about his ability to create space in the post.

the Lebron camp still lists him as the heaviest player there, but by just one pound. He's still a big player by b12 standards.

Not sure about being out of shape but carrying that extra weight around last year might have caused him to have slower feat which got him into foul trouble and less playing time sitting on the bench. Can't wait to see his low post game with the new frame.

Yet he was weighed at 236 pounds at the Lebron Skills Academy. He was listed at 240-245 last year.

I don't doubt that Niang will appear fitter than last year, just as he appeared more fit last year than he was as freshman, but I think a 25 pound weight drop is bs.

Fitter, happier, more productive,
Comfortable,
Not sweating too much,
Regular exercise at the practice facility
(Seven days a week),
Getting on better with your associate teammate contemporaries,
At ease,
Eating well

With the absence of the jimlad, I think I should point out that I'm 99.999999% sure IACYGUY is being sarcastic. Resume Tuco hate again.

And he won't have to guard the other teams center. Not having to battle a much bigger guy down low will do wonders for his stamina.

IMO he's set up for a huge season, even more so than some here realize. He was on fire at the end of the season. Now he's in better shape, he'll have better match ups on D, and he can be more of the focal point of the offense this year.

Why do you continue to quote and respond to the troll? He's accomplished his goal and ruined another thread. And you keep it going.

Being that I'm around a ton of KU fans I've diagnosed twocoach with what a good number of KU fans have...I call it, "passive cockiness"...they try to be cool but still let you know in a subtle way that they are superior.

As ribs says, it's best to just ignore them...and definitely don't make eye contact!

What an odd first post. Not bad, just odd.

What can I say? I'm a follower of Big 12 basketball, who recently registered, who only occasionally comes by, and who admits to being somewhere in the region between "stickler for accuracy" and "*******."

I'm not a hardcore ISU fan, but I'd probably rather see ISU win over any team not representing my alma mater. I like Hoiberg. Who wouldn't? (But I have to say that if you are going to let your name be used for a 1,200 calorie burger, there is no way you should let them use American cheese on it, and I can't imagine his cardiologist would let him actually eat one of the things.) I like Niang, but like a lot of ISU fans, I've been kind of frustrated by seeing Niang commit really stupid fouls which at times happened to negate his really great play. I remember seeing pictures of him in the Cap City Summer League last year and thinking he was way more fit than I remember him looking mid-way through his freshman year. I imagine he is continuing his trend to less body fat, but not really losing weight.

So I guess it was just a fact check thing. I hope that can be forgiven. I was actually tempted to chime in about a month ago with a comment that I couldn't see how Tsalmpouris would be on the Greece men's national team, but that he'd be on the U18 team playing for the European championships, but I kept quiet at the time. The Big 12 is about to get a lot taller with Turner, Allen, Hurt, Bolden, Kabadyundi, Lattin, Tsalmpouris and McKay all coming in.

I won't quote tuco's post but I want to acknowledge something. Let's look at the teams seeded 1-10 in each respective region because, let's be real, those are the only teams with a chance of winning it all. One person gets 7, 8, even 10 teams. The other person gets the rest. Would you say there is a 50-50 shot at each person winning?

More "expert" love for Georges.
This one has nothing to do with his verticle or weight loss.
Great to see that GN is taking advantage of his opportunity and showing off his complete game (not to say that Seth wasn't aware of him before.)

@SethOnHoops: @GeorgesNiang20 might be the best passer at the LBJ camp. @CycloneMBB

What a great shout-out! His passing skills and court awareness has always been impressive to me. The ticky-tack fouls that he sometimes gets are the only times I really question that court awareness and I chalk most of those up to momentary lapses of concentration.

I am getting so excited for the season and am very thankful for all of these extra opportunities for Georges and the rest of the team to improve their skills and shine on a larger stage.

If you're a stickler for accuracy then you'd be wise to remember that listed heights and weights for players on team websites, etc... are rarely accurate as neither is reported weight loss. Players are routinely listed as taller, shorter, heavier or lighter than they really are for a multitude of reasons. You can probably find three different websites list Niang's height differently, along with his weight. Maybe that 25 pound loss is from the highest weight he has ever been in his life, who knows. Don't sweat stuff like this because there is a 0% chance that you'll ever have all the accurate details.
