haha I think it's because I grew up in Boston and saw far too much of the opposite. Too many fans up there get more joy out of booing the Yankees, Canadiens, Lakers, etc. than they get out of cheering for the Sox, Bruins and Celtics! I always thought that was kind of ridiculous and went they other way in my sports cheering habits.

Ok I haven't been around for a while but the season is fast approaching and something keeps bothering me when I think about the Army game.

First, I am sorry if this had been discussed already but it will also need to be mentioned again the week of the game.

It is very common when the opposing team takes the field the fans BOOO them. Very OK with this since I usually have participated especially when it is Iowa or Nebraska.

But now we are about to have Army come in and I sure hope we don't boo are future Army Lieutenants (officers). Some of which will most likely end up on the battlefield with in a year.

I for one was in the military albeit the Army NG but I have the utmost respect for the Active Duty guys more. So I have a plea to start talking about not booing and passing it on to others not to boo that weekend. Maybe Jon Miller needs to bring this up too, to get the word out.

I would sure hope we could be more creative than booing our future Military leaders.

I know it is corny but something like “Go Army beat Navy, but Today is a Cyclone Dayâ€￾ would be far better. Think of a stadium giving a praise to the Army team but reminding them also this is still our house.

Now I know some of the Navy people on here would argue about saying Go Army beat Navy but to bad I was in the Army and it is my thread. Don’t like it think of something else.

Whoa….you're waaaaaayyyy over thinking this.

I don't tend to boo when opposing teams enter the field, but I don't see any reason to give Army any special treatment. This is a football game. They are not marching off into a combat zone.

So, for all you folks who liked the idea of a cardinal-and-gold camo shirt for this game:

I spent quite a while looking online and can't find anything that's even halfway acceptable. Most "camo" patterns are one-third color, and two-thirds black and white. I was unable to find anything at all (shirts or otherwise) that is simply different shades of the same color. If we could just find a decent shirt, it would be easy to order them up and have them screenprinted, but I can't even find a good shirt. This was a really cool idea, but doesn't look to be too feasible.

I have another suggestion instead: everyone should go buy this year's Gameday shirt. It has the "CyclONE Nation" logo on the back, and looks very nice. Plus, with so many people already wearing them, you'll just be making the stadium look that much more impressive! (For God's sake, people, let's all be wearing the correct colors at games this year, hmm? No more ridiculous colors like black and white and brown and teal and McDonald's. Just cardinal. We don't even have a home game this year where we need to go gold.)

Anyway, here's the shirt. $10 in stores ($7 with student ID. Get a student to buy yours for you, maybe?)

I might be in the minority here on this topic, but I never boo anyone. In fact, I will occasionally give a polite, subdued cheer for an opponent if it's a player I like or if they've made a spectacular play. I respect the sport and the athleticism, regardless of whether you play for the team I am rooting for. I prefer to cheer for my own team than to boo the opponent. Just my 2 cents.

I prefer to do this as well, as opposed to the blaming the referees on letting another team do a spectacular play against us.

That's... green and tan. A classy combination, to be sure, but not real important colors as far Iowa State University Cyclones are concerned. In fact, those are the guys we'll be aiming for.

We're looking for an ACU pattern that's two shades of red/cardinal, or of gold. Then we screenprint something on it in the opposite color.

After I thought about it, that would look terrible. Screen print ISU's colors on that and it looks cool, IMO. I was talking about the long sleeve shirt by the way. If someone who had mad photoshop skills could put something together, we could see this idea in action.

I think some of you are taking the whole boo thing a little too seriously. It's nothing but a little ribbing. Some people do it, others don't. I sometimes boo, does that mean my parents have failed?
Yes. They also failed for not teaching you the difference between men's and women's protective eyewear.

How many opposing football players NOT on Army have military backgrounds or futures? If you provide a list we can selectively voice our support for said players. Also the kNUs and Nebbys of the world have future doctors and teachers on their squads and they need respect too. Not the lawyers mind you, just the people that will contribute to society in some way shape or form.

I'm former military myself but this is just a ballgame. I respect the hell out of kids choosing the military route, but the opposing teams need NO additional help from what should be a hostile home crowd.

I have never understood booing - I think it shows a lack of sportsmanship. I have not been to a basketball game in a few years but I liked the clapping 5 times for each visitor as the starting lineups are announced - it acknowledged them but didn't boo them either.

It is all in your prospective.

Do you think the opposing players at BB games come out and say….ohhhhh….how nice. I'm getting 5 claps for me!

No….it is mocking. It is a forced clap. Everyone gets the same treatment. No more…no less. It is no different then entering a contest and getting a blue ribbon only to find out that everyone that signed up for the contest also rec'd a blue ribbon….just because they signed up...not because they were deserving of any special recognition.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. You are showing respect for the opponent. The crowd isn't mocking the player.
