I have say that Audi/Acura of Johnston has taken a big step back in both sale and service since Jordan sold everything to Lithia.

I am mildly excited to see carmax coming to the Des Moines area. I would think this should help lower used car prices in the area. Plus with carmax you can pay like $400 and they'll bring in cars from anywhere in the country.

I've been their twice over the last week and have terrible service and not much to offer. They had like 4 new A4's and 5 used ones. I went and sat down at a salesmans desk and first thing he did was spilled coffee on me! I told him, "that will be 1000 dollar discount"
He didn't think it was worth that much.

Should I assume you're anti wagon? The Audi A3 has the same powertrain as the A4 and can be picked up pretty cheap.

I know a lot of people hate them but I think it looks pretty sweet.

Unfortunately, I hate wagons.

Des Moines said they can try and find a Aruba Blue color in an 09, but they almost made it sound that without even looking at it, that if they go find one I have to buy it, because they don't think they can sell it.

That's a sharp looking car, I think I'd call that more of a hatchback, not as "wagony" as some.

do a total cost of ownership on whatever you buy.. this includes, parts/repairs, mpg, licensing, reliability and re-sale... I find 3-4 year old domestic have the lowest TCO especially as you look out over 6-8 years of ownership...

Also if you do a TCO on hybrids, they aren't exactly money savers at this point in time... of course I can't predict gas prices either... so what do i know..

I didn't read all 5 pages, but...

They discontinued Pontiac, but they did one thing right in their last year. Check out the G8...corvette engine, you can get a 6.0 or 6.2 V8 if you pay for it, and it is well on pace with Audi or BMW.

I really like this car, and it might be my next car. Not overmade so you don't see a lot of them, but it is a sharp looking ride, and has power to boot.

I love the G8. If Chevy has a brain in their head they'll bring it back over. Not as refined as most imports but a real reliable solid powerhouse.

I heard when they were discontinuing Pontiac, that they were going to keep this car going, but change it to the new Caprice Classic. Not sure if that's still true.

I love mine, but they aren't for everyone. If you want a serious sport sedan, you absolutely can't go wrong with a G8. The performance numbers are on pace with the Germans, but you won't mistake the interior for anything Bavarian. Gas mileage is on the marginal side, and it requires a great deal of attention and patience in the snow. It's a little bigger than most of the cars being discussed here.

That said, the only thing I would trade my GT for right now is a GXP model. It's a damn shame that the best car to ever wear the arrowhead was also the last.

If you want to go American car a Chevy Impala or Malibu is a very solid car and depending on the model you get you can get all your "bells and whistles" and luxury while also getting a solid made and fuel efficent car.

I'll tell you one thing about the Chevy V8, I bought a 2007 Monte Carlo SS which has a 5.3 liter 303 HP V8 and has the Active Fuel Management system that turns off 1/2 the cyclinders when it doesn't need the horsepower and it gets terrible gas mileage. In town I am lucky to get 15-17 mpg and unless you get a nice stretch of flat interstate getting the rated 27 mpg is nearly impossible. I get 24-26 on a good day on the interstate and that is if there are few hills and no head wind you are driving into. The 2007 3.5 Liter V6 Impala we have usually gets the rated 32 MPG or even better on the highway and I can easily see us running this car till it dies as well as it has performed for us.
