Should someone tell them what answer matches up with “being competitive”?
Not sure what you mean.

They seem to play harder against the better teams. Houston, Arizona, Tech, even BYU they finally kicked it in

In NCAA its 1 and done, you would hope it clicks to take the approach you did against the top 4 of the league

Not really complicated

I was just using your response of being “competitive” as the answer. As you said, it’s 1 and done in the tournament so you need to be more than competitive.

Hope is not a strategy.

In the other tournament setting this year they played well.
Big 12 tourney, will see what approach they have.

Well we don't play the games, so hope is pretty much all we have as fans. Or you can just be a pessimistic a-hole. Choice is yours I guess.

It does feel like there is a lot of variance with this year's team. Just have not had the consistency or continuity that you want to see this late in the season. That said, nobody should be predicting a first round upset. At our best, we are clearly in the top 2 tiers of teams in the sport. I think we could lose in round 2 if we run into a bad matchup, but I am optimistic we can return to the Sweet 16.

Long season
And of course that’s for everyone, but we played a rotation of 8 , then the injuries/illness hit. And of course that’s for everyone.

I feel this team is built for the 3 “mini” tournaments in the NCAA. Guard play and defense. The turnovers are a huge concern though. But I still believe in this team.

It’s interesting , do we fair better playing less games in the Big12 Tournament? Or winning the whole thing to restore confidence and validate the early season success?

I say winning will be more beneficial for this team. Get the mojo back and go on a run that is certainly an achievable outcome.

I believe if we win the first game of each “mini” tournament, we win the 2nd. Gotta get past that Sweet 16 hump it’s been 25 years in the making.

I’m going to say Final Four and hope it’s one heck of a ride!

Seems crazy to say but I don't believe we possess the athleticism to go past 8.

The problem I have is that this team has been trending the wrong direction since the beginning of conference play. Yeah, we had some injuries and players sitting out, but even with them all back now, we aren't playing at that level we started conference play with.

Turnovers, rebounding and free throw shooting will doom us. I predict sweet 16.
Looking back through the conference season, rebounding hasn't been terrible. Sometimes it seems worse than the final stats, due to when offensive rebounds are given up. Some good wins have come in games in which ISU was outrebounded.

FT shooting I see as a strength. 75% as a team is very good.

To me, turnovers and being ice cold from 3 are the limiting factors for this team.

A lot of this will depend on matchups. But as of right now, this team feels like a S16 team with the capability to advance further.

In January, I would have said elite 8 is the floor. Now, the prospects of beating a 1-3 seed to get there are 50/50 at best.

I voted sweet 16, which is a decent accomplishment when you were blown out by OkSt and KSU a few weeks prior.

And the last two games the opposing team has shot lights out at the free throw line. A combined 50-58 (86.2%). You are correct: 75% as a team is indeed very good. 86.2% is absurd

I marked it down as round of 32, but mostly because knowing our luck I think somehow we are going to get a bad matchup in game 2, and right now we haven’t been consistent enough. Plus if we make past it, then we exceeded my expectations, and I’ll be thrilled.

I had this all planned out perfectly 9 months ago. Kid #2 due date is coming up, so plan was to take some family leave and enjoy every second of an epic cyclone run in March. Now I just need our beloved cyclones to hold their end of the bargain!

I haven't seen a team this year that hasn't had flaws in their game. IMO, we can beat anyone in the field. Our defense is capable of keeping us in any game.

I picked Elite 8 because I think we have the pieces to get there, but going one round less or one round more wouldn't surprise me.
