Testifying
I've had several friends whose contracts ran out, and their bill price doubled. When they called to see what they could do about it Mediacom basically said they wouldn't negotiate with them at all or offer them a new deal and that they would have to pay the doubled cost. So needless to say the friends mentioned went with Century Link/DirecTV.

Not surprising. Wife and I moved and had to cancel the contract early (which we both knew we had to pay a fee, and won't complain about). I went into the store in Ames and paid $60ish to cancel.
Month later, she is checking her online banking and notices they charged her for the next billing cycle after we cancelled. She called up and the person said it would take 2 weeks to get a refund, in the mail. I have no idea how they think that is good customer service.

I'm moving to Des Moines in June. How much is Century Link per month? I won't need anything but internet, as I'm taking my DirecTV with me.

I have CFU (Cedar Falls Util) but I am moving to apartments in West Des Moines with Mediacom (don't really get a choice, otherwise I'd have DTV in a heartbeat.) I haven't have Mediacom since I had their most basic stuff in MWL dorms @ ISU in 2004. I'll be honest, I'm totally bummed and scared of dealing with their terrible service. Anybody have any success stories of how they've dealt with Mediacom or how to get some deal with them or something? Also knowing how much they run for services would be nice. And I mean they're ACTUAL prices once the bill comes, not the advertise/website prices.

Every time a thread like this one appears my love for that antenna tucked into the attic above my garage grows larger. Hooray for OTA and DTV.

I have Mediacom internet only and our bill is around $65/month. When we had internet, cable and 1 HD receiver our bill was around $120-$130/month, but that was about 2 years ago.

Thank god for Southslope in my area. They have been nothing but the nicest people ever. Their installers were very professional and the service has been very courteous.

Before then I had Mediacom...what a mistake. Constant service interruptions, bill kept getting higher, and the internet sucked. I was paying only for 3 down, but I kept getting .5 down and .002 up. It would take me 10 minutes to load a photo onto Facebook. Thank god I no longer have them.

I really wish somebody would come in with an ala carte type service. There are only a handful of cable channels I watch consistently.

+1. Of the hundreds of channels my wife and I have available to us, I would say we regularly watch maybe a dozen at the most.

we have phone, internet, cable with MC. had it for years. 1 dvr, 2 other hdboxes, and 2 regular boxes. have the plan with hbo, encore, starz, and sports pak channels. we pay $160. really haven't had many issues with them. called a couple months ago to see if we could get a lower rate, they knocked price to $75 for 3 months, then back to $160.

Our mediacom internet has been completely terrible for about the last month & a half. We're lucky if it stays up for a whole day.

We've called at least 10 times trying to get a technician out. We had an appointment scheduled a couple weeks ago for 5-7 pm on a Tuesday. That day we got a call at around 10:30 am saying the technician came, but nobody answered... (no ****, we scheduled it at 5 cause we work!).

We have another appointment this evening. We already know the DTV / Century Link packages we want if MC can't get it fixed today.

I wanted to contribute to the Mediacom bashing in some way and I literally could not find the words to describe how bad they are in every facet.

No surprise. They've got a monopoly on the state and it shows. Why bother to have decent service or prices when you know people will accept whatever you give them.

I know y;ur pain my friend....If I could get reception on a Dish I would get rid of Mediacom in a new york minute....

I don't understand what you all are complaining about. We can have a technician come out on Thursday between the hours of 6 am and 1 pm to look at your issues for about 5 minutes, replace one cable splitter, and say that should solve the problem and leave. You will then have the same issue less than 12 hours later and call out the technician again. Keep repeating this cycle until the issue is resolved. What's so hard about that?

Yeah, the only way to get decent support through mediacom is to use their online support people, whether on twitter, dslreports, or their own support forum.

You guys are all wet. Mediacom rocks. For example, they just recently rolled out some HD channels. I'm up to 16 of them now :jimlad:

I had a buddy who lives in West Des Moines have the same problem. Internet wouldn't work so they schedule a tech to come out...they gave him the 12-2 timeslot so he took off work to meet the guy. Technician never showed up or called. Buddy called back and said the technician tried to call multiple times which was BS. Buddy switched to Century Link & DTV the next day.

i have been against mediacom for years. Let Pollard know your displeasure with them and their tyrannical grip on preseason games. Isu and the Big 12 just agreed with that big fat extension so they aren't that desperate for money. No need to make the faustian bargain anymore. I think it is insane that outside of the Iowa game, almost all non conference games are on mediacom. This is not the time, with the Hawks getting better, to show one or 2 preseason games a yr on regular tv.

They actually have a ton of HD channels now. There is literally nothing that i watch that isnt in HD at this point.

As far as the quality of what i'm getting, i have no complaints at the moment. They are providing everything i want in HD and they are providing higher internet speeds than advertised now (they recently started overprovisioning modems)

While i'm happy, i wish i at least had the alternative of centurylink available. For some dumb reason my HOA has a deal with Hickory Tech, who maxes their dsl out at like 1mbps. If i went across the street centurylink has dsl available for much faster speeds.
