Re: Long Out Rest of Season

Because that is how these things go. And would he really want to play on next year's team?

Re: Long Out Rest of Season

NCAA bball medical redshirt is less than 30% of games. He played in 8/30 = 26.7% So he's under that threshold. He should get it easily if he wants to. but with his best friend and roommate gone I don't know...

Yeah, but they will part ways no matter what, unless they both get drafted by the same team. Would be neat if he and Morris come back next year.

I'm not the many people who were ******** about a 9-0 basketball team. And I won't be among the people ******** of the season falls to crap now.

You know, he's right. I would really hate to be stuck with your abysmal outlook on life. It would be really great if you didn't feel so compelled to share it so frequently.

What reason would he have to transfer? He started for a top 5 team. If he plays next year, he'd be an integral starter for a likely still tournament team. Where would he transfer to be in the same position?

MSU? Arizona? Kentucky?

Who knows, but if he wants to play again and can't get the Medshirt isn't it pretty easy to just graduate and go to grad school?

Pretty sure. I bet he gets it. They have reams of documentation for this one.

I'm not worried about him getting the Medical Redshirt I'm worried about him being healthy enough to matter.

Exactly. Someone finally put logic to this situation. If off season surgery did not help, why are we assuming he's just automatically going to be healthy next year.

This is a legit reason to panic.

Hell, I'm not the publisher of this board who is apparently on the radio saying that there is a chance that he'll transfer to another school to play next year.

Did you hear the show?

Jeff Goodman's take:

Iowa State will miss Naz Mitrou-Long for his leadership and vocal presence as much as anything else. Matt Thomas more than capable of making shots. Hallice Cooke will also need to step up. What I don't understand if why Long made an announcement now. Could have sat for a month and seen if felt better. Gotta wonder if he will graduate and try and play elsewhere next year.

I find it hard to believe he'd leave ISU.

Feel so bad for Naz. Great player, but a better human being. Such a great representative of ISU. He really deserved to be a part of this year's team, and all that was in front of them. Know he will still be an awesome leader from the bench. Get well Naz! As for the rest of this year, keep enjoying the ride. Love these guys.

Pretty sure we play 31 not counting a Big 12 tournament game or exhibition.

Am I the only one thinking, dang Naz looked great so far this year minus the Iowa game, better than ever in fact, especially when driving/slashing/dunking which are things you would think bad hips would make worse. He must be a tough SOB if he was playing through a ton of pain and just finally decided he had enough. Wish him the best and hope he and Monte play together next year so we don't have as big of drop off. There wasn't a particular play when anyone noticed he hurt one of his hips against Iowa was there?

If you're thinking he could go somewhere else for grad school and play basketball without the med. redshirt -- you are incorrect. He would have to graduate AND get the medical hardship waiver AND get the grad school transfer waiver in order to play somewhere else next year.

Not impossible.

Barely.

Agree. But he could be forced to, right?
