Naww.. I LOVE LOVE LOVE CPR as much as anyone, but I feel for the first time in a long time I feel like ISU could thrive under a variety of different coaches.

CPR is important, but we can sustain without him.

I don't at all. We need him to stay awhile longer before we have a sustainable football program.

Not even close to the 90s. There were a mountain of reasons we had issues in the 90s. Coaching was a small part of that. ADs not caring, treading water, and sanctions were bigger issues than coaching then.

Sure. But, I'm just talking on-the-field-results.

If we lose Rhoads, whomever comes in will probably struggle to win 3 or 4 games as a first year guy, and if he is successful, he'll be gone in even less time.

Ya it would take years to recover from this. I would like to see JP out the door too if he really cant keep a "hometown boy".

I think you would want JP gone regardless.

As long as it wasn't a lack of $$ offered to coach or for facilities you can't place blame on JP.

CPR is the face of our program right now, and has really become a great image for the University as well. I'm hoping those capable are reaching into their pockets. CPR could become the (forgive me) Hayden Fry or Bill Snyder of Iowa State. 20 years from now I desperately want to hear the words "Paul Rhoads Coaching Tree" on half the espn broadcasts.

Ya anyone that thinks it will not be a mass exodus is kidding themselves. I hope Rhoads could live with himself giving this program a death blow.

Where in the hell does KSU come up with this money for Snyder? We HAVE to keep Rhoads. I just wish this would get wrapped up either way soon.

Agreed. The waiting is the worst part. I just want whats going to happen to happen and get it over with.

I think a few years down the road, he could leave with minimal damage.

But not right now.

He rallied everyone around him after Chizik bailed. The guy has become a rock star. If he leaves his freaking home after 3 years, he'll be even worse than the guy before him. If we can't keep Paul Rhoads for 3 years, we can't keep anyone worth a damn for any period of time, and ISU will never EVER have a chance at being more than a stepping stone. JP has to do absolutely everything to keep him here. Especially if we lose him to a rotting program like Pitt.

Exactly. Right now he's proven that Paul Rhoads can come in and do exciting things at Iowa State. Two years from now, assuming the positive trend continues, he'll have proven that Iowa State is capable of sustained success and can be a longer term destination for a good coach. 2-3 years will make a world of difference in how his departure affects the program.

Agreed. If Rhoads leaves it throws ISU back in the tail spin of revolving door of coaches. Think 80's and early 90's.

DMac turned things around with time and stability and I hope CPR sticks around to take it even higher. Which I think he will.

But if CPR leaves expect 5 years tops out of every coach for quite some time. Either they suck and are fired or they win and move on.

Why does anyone think it is about money? Where has he ever given the impression that he needs/wants more $$$ in his paycheck?

At this point it's only internet conjecture on msg boards and one media outlet.

I wouldnt say Jamie would have to be fired if we lost Rhoads. But if it came out that he tried to play hardball with him negotiating and that's why we lost him, then that would be fire-able.

IF he chose to leave, which is still a big IF, then he is doing what he feels is best for him and his family. He should be allowed to make whatever decisions he wishes to make regarding that part of his life...and we no doubt will judge him for those decisions. I don't want him to leave but I am not going to hate him because he made a decision I didn't like.

Agree with this! Also...it just might be about winning! He might see an easier path to a conference title at Pitt rather than ISU. That said...none of us know what his going on in this situation right now.

At least we have a coach that is wanted. That means the program is in the right place.

My last post in this thread. People are wasting their time being worried about this. It's a good thing (being wanted) and all is well.

Yeah, but a title from the ACC is worth what?

The Tom Herman thing I can stomach, when I realize the program he is coaching for but for CPR to jet from ISU to Pitt (Big 12 to ACC) just makes no rational sense.
