More Rhoads Speculation

Around the same time Iowa had 19 straight seasons without a winning record? Same place where KF is originally from? I would be worried about KF leaving for Pitt if I was a hawk fan.

Oh, and their expectations are hardly limited. Posters on the Pitt board are worried about getting a certain coach and having to settle for 9-3 seasons.

In the Big East any FBS team should exceed 9-3.

Some of you are crazy.

Pitt is doing exactly what they should do in contacting him. And there's no harm in Rhoads listening. I, personally, don't think Pitt fits the profile of a school that he'd leave for, but money can also talk.

Those of you that immediately dismiss any notion of him ever leaving have your heads in the sand, though. While it is not at all likely he leaves anytime soon, I'm guessing most of us here don't know him, or those that do don't know his thought process.

There's no reason to worry, though, until something happens. If it does. Which it likely won't.

Not really worried. If it happens it happens.

ISU is on the cusp of a real sea change with Rhoads. He's a hot commodity. I think I'd be worried if I were a clone fan. Just sayin.

You want him to leave, that's why you are saying that. But if you had half a brain, you would know hes not leaving at this point in time.

Not to say it wont ever happen, but if things keep going the way there are... there would be no reason for him to go anywhere else.

He turned down a pay raise last year, why would he leave for money this year? We are about to be making straight cash in a few years with the first tier TV contract and he knows it. Plus after the year ISU had, things are just going to continue to improve. CPR will get paid and will be a Cyclone.

Actually, I don't want to see him leave. The Clones are my second favorite team.

It won't be long, and we will be reading about a nice new long term contract that rewards PR for what he has accomplished at ISU. It will also make it much more difficult for potential suitors.

You don't need to look any further then ticket sales to see the value he adds to the university. JP is a very intelligent AD, and he will do what it takes to keep PR at ISU.

The only reason I can think of that CPR leaving is because we haven't bowled in the endzone yet :jimlad:

I agree. But it would sure be nice for my blood pressure if he gets around to doing it real soon.

If PITT was such and awesome job and a sleeping giant, why would their coach leave after one year to go to ASU? I know ASU offers more money but are they more of a sleeping giant?

(Truthfully I think ASU is more of a sleeping giant and Pitt really isn't that great a job).

Paul has already stated that his dream job isn't open right now, at least not until Jerry Pezzetti announces his retirement.

Freaked me out until I looked it up. Good one. Did he really say this?

Coaches always listen to potential interest/offers from other schools. Rhoads is no different, he knows all the love he is feeling from a lot of people today will change in a hurry if ISU has a couple bad seasons. You can't blame any coach for listening to what other schools have to say. Not saying Rhoads would leave right now for another job, but don't kid yourself if you think it couldn't happen.

You are missing the general point with this tiring, retreaded, unnecessary "reminder". This post could be said about any coach, at any program, at any time. 98% of Cyclone fans realize CPR is no exception to such a universal truth. Are you next going to remind the board that no coach has ever coached at a program for all of time?

The outcome is binary- either he will, or he won't. Again, it is not necessary or beneficial to continuously put the "it is possible" qualifier or percentage, when you think ultimately he won't.

I would be surprised if he did any more than talk privately with Pitt. He might talk just because he has relationships there, but I think it is crazy to do even that. If he starts talking with other schools, he risks undermining his incredible trustworthiness in recruiting.

How many Division I coaches can you trust when they sit in your living room to recruit and say that they expect to be coaching all the way through your program? Rhoads is one of the few coaches who is believeable in this regard. If he starts interviewing for other positions, he would lose this incredible recruiting advantage that he has right now.

And yes, I did just argue for how Iowa State has a national recruiting advantage!

I love CPR, but ISU will never be a big time program, we don't have the $$, fanbase, or population to support a big time program.

I think a reasonable ceiling for us is what KSU or the Hawks have done. They have the same competitive advantages/disadvantages, for the most part. If people want to call that "big time" then I guess we will be too. Not sure I would say that is big time but...

Those who throw out FSU pre-Bowden, va tech, or the Oklahoma schools as comparisons are fooling themselves. Most importantly, they all have advantages in physical proximity to talent. I wouldn't qualify OSU as "big time" until T. Boone's money came rolling in.
