Iowa is barely in the top 10 I think. We are just skewed because we deal with them on a regular basis. There are far worse.

1. Notre Dame
2. Nebraska
3. Clemson
4-6. Florida, Florida State, Miami
7. Ohio State
8. Penn State
9. Michigan
10. Iowa
I think that Miami gets #4 by itself as "The U". Surprised that you didn't put Alabama in there...

I dont really feel ND is as pompous as everyone states...it feels almost like a slap in the face when thats said....its gotta be Iowa...that take arrogance to extreme levels thats flirting wit stupidity...

I don't honestly think that it's possible to overstate how pompous ND fans are about their team, and pretty much everything surrounding ND football is pompous.

90%+ of Notre Dame fans have no attachment to the team other than they are Catholic. This, for some reason, means that God himself is a Notre Dame fan.

It's been 20+ years since they did anything of note, and yet every year you have people thinking they will go to a BCS bowl. They are partially right, all Notre Dame has to do is play their usual meaningless schedule and they have a chance to go to the BCS.

Check out this:
Cumulative Overrated/Underrated Teams
Teams at the bottom of the list are the most consistently overrated teams in preseason publications since 1993. In 15 years of rankings, Notre Dame is second only to Michigan in being overrated before the year starts.

It doesn't get any worse than Notre Dame, IMO.

The link is interesting. I wouldn't have thought that Alabama was under-rated.

I know the original question was other than Iowa, but man there really isn't a team that even comes close!

Here is an example: Last night I went out to meet some friends in Dubuque, IA for beers. I wore a red Iowa state shirt (with the new logo). I had 2 guys come out of the bathroom stare at me, then say "Idaho State?" to which I respond "It ain't UNI but it'll do" and they just chuckle and walked away.

Just 2 guys right? I go to leave and walk outside and another guy notices my shirt and say (I can't make this up) "How's NDSU?!" to which I turn around and say "Dude, you beat UNI by a point! At least we won by more than the skin on our teach" and he just says whatever and continues to smoke his cigarette.

How any 3 seperate people be that cocky after BARELY beating UNI THAT SAME DAY!? Every run in I have with Hawkeyes turns out this way, they just think they are the BEST team ever!!!!:skeptical:

All but Clemson and Iowa have a reason to have egos. Notre Dame certainly has little recent success but their tradition can't be argued.

"Skin on our teach"? I've never heard that.

I agree, I don't think Iowa belongs in the top 10...maybe at the bottom end but that is it. There is no doubt they are the most pompous and ignorant fans in the state, but there are so many other schools that make me sick

I agree Notre Dame is number one. This idea that they are "God's team" and the sense of entitlement is just awful. How many years has it been since they have been significant?

Next on my list would the "The" school...Ohio State and Miami. Get over yourselves.

Nebraska is up there on my list too, but it is had to fault them because their football team is the one thing that entire state has going for it.

Then from there I would round my list out with every SEC school.

Well I hate all Florida teams equally, so that might have biased me.

In my experience all of the SEC is fairly pompous, with some schools worse than others, so it's hard to really say that Alabama is worse than Auburn, for instance, so I just put the most egregious violations on my list.

I also find that southern fans tend to not be so pompous as passionate. They are willing to admit when their teams are awful much more readily than fans from northern and eastern states for some reason. Florida doesn't count as the south, though.

Notre Dame. Growing up in Boston, it drove me crazy that there were so many arrogant ND fans. With the heavy Irish and Catholic population (of which I'm both, btw) there are more ND fans than there are BC fans. I grew up a BC fan so I always resented that. One of my favorite College Football moments was when BC beat ND in South Bend on a last second field goal in 1993. ND was #1 at the time and I was watching the game with my Dad, brother and a friend, all of whom were ND fans. They sat is stunned silence as I ran around the house yelling and screaming! A priceless moment.

They have gone to 3 BCS bowl games since 2001...I mean ND hasnt been in a conference for MANY decades..Whats wrong with having their own network deal......its putting the school's funds to good use...National exposure can fuel a program....also Notre Dame football is one the most storied collegiate athletic programs in the rich history of the NCAA:yes:

I always felt OU was pretty arrogant but that probably has more to do with the coach.

after hanging out with OU fans this weekend at the BYU game, i would have to say nebraska is far more arrogant. i also rank nebraska as worse than iowa. i have no real experience with fans of teams like notre dame, tOSU, etc....but i have a hard time believing husker fans are right up there with the worst of them all.

I went to the Iowa - UNI game and I noticed something I had not before on the drive back to Des Moines. Nearly every Hawk fan driving back obviously felt that they deserved to drive all the way in the left-hand lane. This left huge gaps on the right side in which I was more than happy to pass all of them. It's funny because it takes a certain type of arrogance to stay camped out on the left and a large dose of stupidity not to recognize that it has turned into the "slow" lane

Arrogance, thy name is Hawkeye.

3 BCS bowl games they had NO business being in, were totally embarrassed in, and were only there because of the vast number of pompous fans they have all over the country, and their consistently awful schedule that gets chalked up to "tradition".

And it's not really about being successful that makes the fans and the program pompous, it's about the fans themselves and how the program is run.
