Dehydrated morels sell for $22 an ounce or more here... Fresh are probably off the charts. Anyone want to send me some to sell? You can pay me in morels...
I'm about to ask some dumb questions, but I don't know anything about this topic or anyone else who does, so here goes:
What do you do with the mushrooms that you find? Eat them in the next few days? Can them? Give them away/sell them? Any interesting recipes?
Seems like a lot of work for something I can buy at the store for a few bucks, is it worth the effort? I suppose for someone who is an outdoors enthusiast it can be pretty fun.
So question for you morel hunter types. Do you know of anywhere in the Ames area that you can sell Morels to? Grocery stores or anything like that, and how to do it if they accept them?
I know that west hyvee has bought them the past few years. I have a buddy who works in the produce section. he said guys just come in and talk to the produce manger, he checks em out to make sure they look okay. I want to say last year they bought them off of guys for just under $10 a lb

Awesome thanks.
I thought you had to have some kind of "Mushroom identification certification" to sell them?

They have to be certified by a federal inspector. You don't have to have the certification personally. There was a story on WHO this morning about it.
