Yeah because meshing 130 players on football and meshing 13 players in basketball is exactly the same thing. If you let Mutch get away with what he did then everyone sees it and thinks they can get away with it. Eventually you get the Rodney Coe effect.

Curious what you think of the first words out of our new stud DT recruit's mouth. "Instant starter", "I'm going to be an impact player". Seems pretty 'me first'. Why would we recruit such a player?

Because worst defense in the country.

He didn't say those things.

Good to know. Just going by the Ron Gray article on the front page:
He did say last month that two words expressed to him by ISU stood out the most: “Instant starter.”
“I’m going to be an impact player,” Tucker said.

Seems confidant in his ability. HOW could you get any of the things you are insinuating?

Good grief. Would you rather that he had the attitude that he sucked and had little confidence in his ability?

Confidence and selfishness are very different. Tucker may turn out to be the worst cancer our locker room has ever had, but it won't be because he came in expecting himself to be an impact player.

No, I WANT this guy and 50 more like him with a little attitude and fire. I'm just curious how all the folks that want complete choir boys are going to reconcile it. I'm also curious how CPR it going to handle it when there is a bit of conflict with him.

For starters, nobody on here cares about what personalities the players are, just that they are good teammates and don't negatively effect the program with an attitude. Second, CPR has probably handled a lot of conflict very well, it's just that the only stuff people here about is Coe and Irving. There are over 100 players on the football team, and considering CPR had any success in seasons 1-4 it's safe to say he has dealt effectively with players with big egos or questionable personalities.

Without knowing what Mutcherson did or is still doing to put himself in the doghouse, it looks to me like Rhoads is handling it as well as you could ask. Sit the kid for a few games and hope he comes to understand that the program is bigger than any one player. If he still doesn't get it and doesn't make the necessary attitude/conduct adjustments, then it's time for Mutcherson to go. I hope it doesn't come to that. The secondary has the potential to be pretty good next year but Mutcherson's departure would be a big loss.

Why are we assuming he is leaving again? There is "speculation" but do we have any facts? Anything besides he said/she said? I'm not trying to be dumb and I haven't followed the entire thread so would anyone mind giving me a quick sentence update with some facts where this situation stands. TIA.

Why would any decent player come here other than for early playing time?

Dude, go back to the Hawkeye board and quit posing.

ISU has a ton of great things to offer, including a fantastic and friendly environment with top-knotch academics. And yes, a coaching staff that consists of guys who care deeply about the program and the kids.

So, he's going to jack up a shot instead of making the extra pass?

Well for one, our Defense is was not good, not even remotely, and this kid is a player, and can bring instant relief to a position that needs it. Second, our defense/team need to gain cofidence, and if that start with one really good player being cocky than so be it. All I am saying, is even if he said "instant starter" let the kid prove himself. Who are you to judge anyone. We need cocky, we need anything other than what we have.

^^Ding Ding Ding^^
I agree with you 100%
And the same could be said for Mutcherson. That's my whole point.
I'm asking the people saying Mutcherson has an 'attitude' problem if they are having qualms about this guy.
