Nile, Fran, Hayden, Kirk, ;)

Congrats though.

La - a (pronounced ladasha) saw that one for real.

Ranger, vincent, phil, orangello.

Or Leinenkugels, Heineken, bud, schlitz?

I kind of like Nile but more like Niles, wife said no. She liked Hayden but I said I couldn't do it, too close to the Hawkeyes for comfort. I know Nile Kinnick but didn't feel as Hawkeyeish as Hayden.

La - a is hilarious. Can't believe some people.

Would love to have the name have a connection to hockey or Cyclones but my wife sees through all of my tricks.

Trice James which when called T.J. could secretly stand for Topshelf Junior as so previously stated win win ISU ties and covert future Cyclone Fanatic.

Fantastic name - T.J. - But, was foiled again by my genius wife who pretends she doesn't know anything about the Cyclones.... Her response "I don't know about that..."

yes this true. i thought we were going to have a bad 3rd child name of Cash. then the wife decided that we should be traditional like the other kids. i still won out because he goes by his middle name, CASH, first name Matthew.

Nice, I like Cash and like the idea of middle name. I have a feeling my wife has a plan for the first name and I will get free pick for middle name. However, James is my grandfather's middle name, my father's middle name, and my middle name. It is also my wife's grandfather's middle name. Alexander is my grandfather's name. So I like both of those. My wife isn't a fan of either for first names so they may become the middle.

What about Jamison? It's a form of James and my wife seems to like it better than James...

If it's your first child, some advice.

If you're going for unique, and are committed to that, don't f-ing tell anyone the name until it's on the birth certificate. Otherwise you'll get the full court press from everyone who thinks their opinion is relevant. The f-ing checkout lady at Wal-Mart will tell you her opinion if you let her.

But since you asked, and this is a message board and easy to ignore, personally, I'm not a fan of *unique*, depending on how that's done. Like taking a normal name and screwing up the spelling, you're saddling your kid with having to repeat the spelling of his/her name 3 times and correct it twice after that.

I guess we kind of went unique in the fact that it's a traditional name, but not one that's popular now. Nothing like Jedidiah or anything, but it's a family name and not on the top 10 lists.

That rant aside, if you want unique, work an actual number in. Maybe 4est (Forest) or 1der (wonder), that's unique on 2 fronts.

So...hopefully 2 worthwhile suggestions, and one stupid one.

All great advice, I love the number idea. Cracked me up.

I talked to my wife about unique and she means classic and unique. We have a daughter that would fit classic and unique. However, with boys it isn't the same. A classic name is typically common..... so harder than with the girl names. Agree, don't want to make it hard on the kid.

My wife is very picky. She wouldn't let me name our son Cy.

Our son is named Garion which means guardian.
We just found out we are having another one if it's a boy we are naming it Kale.

I think a name like Jeremiah, or something that you can have "two names" for him would be a solid way to go. That way you can call him a common name when he's in good standing and not in trouble (Jeremy) and Jeremiah when things get serious. Make sure to give him a middle name that doesnt make him sound like "John David Booty" or "John Parker Wilson", as that would be horrificly wrong.

I'm always curious where people saw this. According to the Social Security database, it's never happened... but obviously there are names that don't show up in there:

A few years back, a nephew and his wife had a baby boy and they ended up staying in the hospital for a couple of days. Anyway, during that time they still hadn't named their child.

Finally, right before they left the nurse said that they needed a name on the birth certificate... the husband went outside and thought about it, still uncertain he returned to the room, seeing the wife holding their child when a friend walked in and said, "I thought he was bigger then that." And dad named his son from that statement - Dalton

I had twin girls so I didn't get to use any names on my list. If I had a boy, I was choosing between these: Lincoln, Maron, Alexander, Marshall or Benton

My sister and her husband used this strategy...and wisely so. Wouldn't tell anyone the name they had picked out. When he was born, my sister told me his name was Gentry.....could have knocked me over with a feather.
