Inside Texas (ESPN) has Quan West ranked as the sixth best WR (in Texas).

So, it isn't posted yet but I wrote a little deal on the offense about what we needed. Outside of continuing to build depth on the line my biggest need was a big outside receiver similar to what Marquis was. This it. Either that or he will be a pass catching tight end like Franklin. Either way, it's a guy we could use. I was a big fan of Cedric Gilbert last year for that position but I think this is better. He's not a blazer and IMO, probably won't be your superstar but he is guy who will compliment guys like a Teddy Lampkin or Jarvis West if he lines up outside or if he is a TE split out. Also, 4.65 is fast enough to be effective when you are 6'4 and probably 220 by the time you play.

Yeah, body-wise he reminds me of both Cedric Gilbert and Kori Babineaux, two guys who ISU considered last year. To me, two things jump out on film...first is his ability to jump up and grab the ball, second (more importantly) was his blocking. You see him just destroying guys downfield. With the way Herman likes to run those bubble screens and RB swing passes, I'm betting the staffs' mouths were watering watching this kid block downfield.

I never said I didn't like him. I love his size but he's just on the slower side if that number is accurate.

He averages 20 yards per catch. You can't do that and not have any speed, especially in Texas in the Houston area, which is probably THE hotbed for football in a state full of football hotbeds.

From ShaggyBevo

I track it on an excel spreadsheet and I have an aggregate in the meantime until ToY gets his website updated. My list includes rankings from the FAB 55 (247), LSR (Ketch), Old Coach, Scout 300, ESPN, Gig 'Em 247 and Luicci's 44. To normalize it and remove any bias I strip out the highest and lowest ranking for each prospect using a formula. Here's the current aggregate from those sources:

Kid is the definition of a possession receiver, was able to watch some film behind a pay wall.

3000+ football scholarships go out every year. A top 100 kid in Texas is usually a upper crust commit if they grow to their potential

Agreed. This guy is a good commit, especially in May.

Good to have him on board. Exactly what we needed. A WR with size who goes after the ball and is physical. Something I think people are overlooking in that speed argument, is that with as physical as he appears to be, he'll be able to create separation off the line of scrimmage against smaller, quicker corners and win jump balls down field.

Great pick up and welcome to ISU.

Gotta love that almost immediately after finding out this kid commits, fans start saying he's too slow, move him to TE, hope we can hang on to him...etc.

Imagine if our coaches had this much anxiety about recruiting. We'd never get a commit.

FWIW, 4.65 is plenty fast. Watch the NFL combine sometime.

Anyone who says that 4.65 is too slow for a 6'4 Big 12 WR doesn't have a clue

2011 NFL Combine: WR

There's no doubt in my mind that after 4-5 years in our strength and conditioning program that he will be in the 4.5s. At 6'4, 210-220 that is what you call a weapon.

Wes Welker comes to mind, although he never had the advantage of size like Quan appears to

Let me get this straight...did we just get a commit from a Texas top 100 (damn near top 50) kid in May? Holy crap...

This class is shaping up to be the best class ever at ISU...and I don't think that is being dramatic at all.
